Xiaomi Mi Band 4: Fitness tracker with a customizable color display!

Share

The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 was good, but the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is on the verge of being fantastic.

You might be getting active with a color display, heart rate monitor, and connected GPS for less than the cost of two movie tickets, a couple of tubs of popcorn, and two supersized sodas. The band also includes swim tracking, and its screen, unlike its predecessor, is simple to see both indoors and out.

The band’s body is no less intimidating, fitting on Mi Band 3 straps, and it’s no less user-friendly, with a straightforward menu system.

The update does, however, add a larger, flat-screen for less fussy swiping, as well as a slightly higher-capacity battery, ensuring that the extra color and brightness don’t degrade battery life – amazing, given the reported 21 days on a single charge.

This fitness tracker is half the price of the cheapest Fitbit, even at full price. This updated version keeps the extended battery life and adds sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and a variety of activity modes, including swim tracking, which is unheard of at this price.

Price and Release date

The Mi Band 4 is now available worldwide from Xiaomi. It’s available for $49.99 on Amazon in the United States, and £23.98 on Xiaomi’s own store in the United Kingdom.

In China, there’s also a more expensive version, but the only added function it has is NFC, which is used to enable payment services that aren’t available in the US or the UK.

Design and display

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4‘s design is sleek and straightforward, and it appears to be ordinary until the full-color display is turned on.

It is so light on the wrist (21g), especially when compared to a wristwatch like the Amazfit Verge or the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active.

The touch screen and a capacitive button are on the front of the Mi Band 4’s core unit. The heart rate monitor, as well as a pogo pin connector for charging, are located on the device’s undercarriage.

The simple clasp mechanism on the strap is secure, pleasant, and composed of thermoplastic polyurethane. It may not appear to be a party on your wrist because it is only available in black, but if you look around for old Mi Band 3 straps, you can find a variety of styles and colors (they play nicely with the Mi Band 4).

The Mi Band 4’s screen is 0.95 inches in size, which is larger than the Mi Band 3. It’s also of greater quality this time, and interaction is better, with fewer missed taps and swipes.

The fact that the brightness rises to 400 nits improves viewability greatly. This means it’s visible indoors and out, and when combined with clever motions like waking it up with a wrist twist, it’s the first Mi Band product that feels like it may replace a wristwatch.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is also waterproof up to 50 meters, much like the Mi Band 3, so you can take it swimming or showering with it.

Specs and other features

The Mi Band 4 comes with a 3-axis sensor and a 3-axis gadget. This is necessary for step tracking, but it also enables the unique motion-to-wake gesture, which transforms the band into a useful wristwatch.

The Band 4 also tracks sleep, and because of its small and light design. The Samsung Galaxy Watch measured a little less deep sleep, but overall sleep times were comparable.

It doesn’t include REM sleep information, like other high-end Fitbit products or a dedicated tracker, unlike more pricey gadgets.

The time is displayed nicely and clearly in the default display. There’s also a visual representation of how much exercise you’ve done today, as well as a battery percentage indication and the date.

Calls, texts, alarms, reminders, and app notifications may all be sent to your wrist, and they can all be modified via the smartphone app.

Battery life

A 135mAh battery powers the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. Having utilized the tracker for just over a week, including a few training sessions, our battery reading dropped by 32%. That matches Xiaomi’s claim of 20 days, though your exact number of days will vary depending on your watch face, activity tracking, and general usage.

It’s a pain to charge the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. This won’t work with a micro USB or USB-C connection since you have to remove the tracker from its band and plug it into a proprietary charger. It does change rapidly, though, and assuming Xiaomi’s 21-day battery life holds true over time, you’ll only need to charge it roughly 18 times a year.

Fitness tracking

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4’s step tracking worked well with other trackers in everyday use and was constantly on.

A heart rate sensor lies right on your skin on the back of the tracker. It, on the other hand, isn’t always on. So it won’t be constantly tracking your heart rate when you’re out and about.

Instead, you must activate it in order for a score to be transmitted to your wrist and stored in the Mi Fit app on your phone. This can also be accomplished by starting a workout. This activates continuous tracking during your session and displays your progress on the band’s display.

When you’re jogging, the tracker will also record your distance and will operate in concert with your phone’s GPS to provide a connected GPS experience. This should suffice for casual runners who don’t mind carrying their phones around with them. If you want something a little more lightweight, you’ll want an all-in-one solution, which the Mi Band doesn’t provide.

Activities can be sparked by the band itself. When we evaluated the Mi Band 3, though, had to use a phone to start training sessions. So this is a major improvement for the latest iteration. It even congratulates you when you reach certain milestones, such as 1 kilometer, which is a great touch.

All of this adds up to a very similar-looking piece of equipment from Xiaomi. But one with a substantially greater value for casual exercisers and technology surfers both.

Is the Mi Band 4 harmful to one’s health?

The materials used to make wearable gadgets might create chemical reactions that can harm the wearer’s skin, especially if they are used for extended periods of time. Batteries and electrical circuits are two major health dangers associated with smartwatches. When used over an extended period of time, they can become quite hot.

Is Fitbit a better option than the Mi Band?

The Mi Band 4 comes out on top when it comes to smart features.

There are also a lot of watch faces to choose from, including a lot of third-party alternatives, but the Fitbit app only has roughly 15 watch faces to choose from. In addition, the screen is considerably nicer. A color AMOLED display with customizable brightness is featured on the Mi Band.

Is there a microphone on the Mi Band 4?

1 fitness band with up to 20 days of battery life, color AMOLED full-touch screen, and basic earphones with ultra-deep bass and microphone.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 offers excellent value and functionality. A color OLED display with much improved outdoor viewability and a higher resolution are among the improvements over its predecessor. The band’s battery life is also excellent, and tracking has been improved, making it an easy fitness gadget to suggest. It covers the essentials while also adding some embellishments – a significant improvement and desirable investment.
