The Black + Decker 20V Max Inflator is versatile, running on a slide-in battery, 12-volt car accessories socket, or an AC connection. Unfortunately, the trade-off remains that it’s rather large and heavy, making it more difficult to transport. Fortunately, Black + Decker has developed an inflator that can fill any object, whether a tire on the side of the road or a soccer ball within the park.

However, that’s about all it’ll do. You’ll have to seek elsewhere if you want an inflator with added features like USB connections or a lamp.

Design and Features

Black + Decker 20V Max Inflator: Design and features

Despite having identical foundations, this red Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator stands out against the orange and black plastic of the Black + Decker 20V Max Inflator.

The Black + Decker is roughly in size of a small boombox & 13% smaller than the Craftsman V20, measuring 9.6 x 7.8 x 5.6 inches. The B+D Inflator is also lighter, weighing 4.6 pounds without a battery & 5.4 pounds with one, vs 4.9 and 5.8 pounds for the V20.

The B+D 20V Max Inflator, like the V20 Cordless Inflator, may be powered in three ways: 12-volt vehicle accessory converter, AC socket, or battery. It also has the option of using the company’s own 20V Max lithium battery packs.

Its B+D 20V Max Inflator’s 1.3-inch LCD is the focus of attention. It displays both the current pressure and the units in huge numbers. PSI, KPA, and Bars are all supported. The three buttons on the interface are for choosing units and adjusting the pressure that causes the pump to shut off automatically. It has a 150 PSI capacity.

The 20V Max Inflator, like the Craftsman Cordless Inflator, features two switches. The first allows you to choose between AC and DC power, while the second allows you to choose between high and low volume. Choosing between tires and basic inflatables like beach toys, in other words. The extras, including sports ball needles, a bigger tip for inflated toys, and a bicycle tire adaptor, click into position on the case’s side. However, the B+D Inflator is devoid of amenities such as light and power outlets.

Setup

Setup

The B+D 20V Max Inflator is thinner & lighter than Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator, and it is still one of the largest & heaviest air compressors available. The handle on the pump makes it easy to transport from one tire to the next, but it does so without a case or bag.

All 3 of its power options are well-integrated. When not in use, the battery slips in on the side, and both power wires have a place to be wrapped. If the gadget does not turn on, push the pressure unit button in the center to wake it up.

Its cable & air hose merge for 11.7 feet of reach if you utilize the 12-volt accessory connector. A 17-inch hose is also available to fill a large inflatable item like a raft or beach ball.

Performance

Performance

This B+D 20V Max Inflator gets right to work inflating a tire with air to use a fully loaded battery pack. It had a high-pitched whine, but it inflated my tire with 30 PSI in 3 mins & 7 seconds. That equals Carson’s pumping time and puts the Craftsman V20 Cordless Tire Inflator in second place. Unfortunately, there is no battery gauge on either the battery or the pump.

My soccer ball took 9.6 seconds to fill afterward. When the pump reached the programmed shut-off limit, it stopped. The digital pressure gauge on the pump was accurate and stable while in use.

The B+D 20V Max Inflator comes with a two-year guarantee (which includes the battery), which is better than the year-long warranty offered by RoofPax.

Price and availability

Black + Decker 20V Max Inflator: Price and availabi;ity

This Black + Decker 20V Max Inflator is slightly less expensive than the bigger Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator at $67.28(without the battery). The inflator with such a 1.5 amp-hour battery & charger, on the other hand, costs $180 – nearly the same as the V20 Cordless Inflator with a set of 2.0 amp-hour batteries. Black + Decker also produces the ASI300 Air Station. It costs $50 and can be supplied by a 12-volt or AC outlet.

Conclusion

The V20 Max Inflator, like the Craftsman V20 Cordless Tire Inflator, handles the fundamentals well and offers versatility in application. You may power it with the optional portable battery, an AC plug, or the 12-volt accessory socket in your car.

Unfortunately, the inflator lacks some important features such as a built-in light and USB power outlets, which would provide even greater versatility. Still, it’s smaller & lighter than many competitors, making it more convenient to use in a pinch.
