Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 with Upgraded processors and boosted battery life!

Share

Microsoft’s Surface line has become the standard for Windows 10 PCs, making it difficult to imagine the original Surface Laptop was introduced in 2017. When it came to thin and light computers, that first gadget didn’t rewrite the wheel, but it did check a couple of boxes with most people. Since then, the Surface Laptop range has been developed and adjusted, while competitors often provide greater value for money. Microsoft hopes that has changed with the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4, which now supports AMD and Intel CPUs in both 13.5- and 15-inch variants. The battery performance has also been increased.

Design:

The Surface Laptop 4 resembles its predecessor in appearance, which isn’t necessarily a negative thing. Many users will be expecting more than this incremental upgrade, but the tried-and-true concept will continue to attract newcomers. Its pared-down, minimalist design language still appeals to me, even though it is starting to appear obsolete.

If you’re searching for unique design elements, you’ll be disappointed. Aside from the Microsoft emblem on the rear, the Surface Laptop 4 is difficult to distinguish from the plethora of other Windows laptops. This is especially true of the bland-looking Platinum model. While the Matte Black, Sandstone, and Ice Blue options make it stand out more.

The exterior of the gadget, regardless of color, will not be your primary attention. Flipping up the Surface Laptop 4 shows the major attraction – the display. It’s back in 13.5- and 15-inch versions, with Microsoft sticking with the widely popular 3:2 aspect ratio.

The smaller gadget retains its Alcantara fabric covering. This suede-like synthetic material is also utilized on the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers, and it gives a nice spot for your hands to rest. However, it is not as useful when it comes to spillages. If you want a larger screen, the 15-in model’s metal finish would be extremely familiar.

Regardless matter the model you pick, the Surface Laptop 4 has a big trackpad. It’s satisfyingly clicky and handles all Windows motions, but for a better navigation experience. Microsoft’s Surface mouse performs admirably, but there are other alternatives.

Display:

Even if there are no improvements over the Surface Laptop 3, the display deserves its own section. The 13.5 version had a resolution of 22561504, whereas the 15in the model has a resolution of 24961664.

It’s a wonderful standout, as is generally the case with the Surface Laptop range. The colors are bright and brilliant, and the detail is amazing. The SpyderX Elite covers 98 percent of the sRGB color gamut, as well as 74% of Adobe RGB & 73% of DCI-P3. Although this falls short of best-in-class, color fidelity remains one of the Laptop 4’s strong points.

The brightness performance is greater in the center. With a maximum brightness of 389 nits, it is suitable for most indoor conditions but may struggle outside.

However, it lacks a handful of capabilities that are starting to appear in consumer-oriented laptops. The display just on the Surface Laptop 4 is referred to as ‘PixelSense’ by Microsoft, but the important point to note here is that it is LCD rather than OLED. The latter can provide stronger contrast and more vibrant colors, but it depletes battery capacity more swiftly.

Another feature to see is a fast refresh rate. The capability is becoming more widespread on current computers, but the Top player Surface Book range could be the first Microsoft Computer to use it.

Software of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4

When it comes to Laptops and software, there’s generally not much to say, but that’s all changed since the release of Windows 11. Microsoft’s new operating system looks and feels considerably different from Windows 10, and it includes new multitasking capabilities as well as native support for Android apps via the Amazon Appstore. Because the Surface Laptop 4 satisfies all of the hardware specifications, it will be eligible for the free upgrade in 2022.

If you’re thinking about buying the Surface Laptop 4, the fact that it comes with Windows 10 Home isn’t a deal-breaker. Microsoft is unlikely to upgrade the Surface Laptop range until at least mid-2022, then you’ll get Windows 11 as soon as it becomes available.

Battery life:

Battery life is one of the Surface Laptop 4’s primary areas for development. Microsoft claims that all models have cells ranging from 45.8Wh to 47.4Wh, which does not seem especially amazing. The manufacturer currently promises that all setups will last at least 16.5 hours of battery life.

Price & Availability

There are other Surface Laptop 4 combinations available, so you may end up spending much more than the £999/US$999.99 starting price. For £1,649/US$1,699.99, you get an AMD Ryzen 5 4680U CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, but the i7 model. The top-spec model costs up to £2,399/US$2,399.99, but most individuals don’t need much power. The whole selection is available through the Microsoft UK and Microsoft US websites. However, the best pricing is presently available at Amazon UK.

Is Surface Laptop 4 good for students?

The Surface Laptop 4 is great for someone who is constantly on the run due to its design and ergonomics. It’s also a decent pc for its size, making it an excellent choice for students. However, for stuff like coding or gaming, you’ll need to spend more money.

Is Microsoft laptop better than Apple?

While the 2021 MacBook Pro is a powerful laptop capable of running many contemporary games, especially those specialized for macOS, the Surface Laptop Studios is a superior gaming computer in general. If you don’t care about gaming, though, the 2021 MacBook Pro offers superior power for the price.

Does Surface Laptop 4 run hot?

When your gadget is used for extended periods of time, its surface might become quite heated. While the heat may not seem hot to the touch, if you keep body contact with the gadget for an extended period of time, such as if you rest the gadget on your lap, your skin may suffer from a low-heat injury.

Conclusion

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 4 is a conservative improvement, but it still delivers in a number of critical areas. Performance is consistent across all variants, with AMD or Intel as options for starters. The battery life is superb, and the display is stable. You don’t get premium features like a fast refresh rate, OLED display, or LTE connectivity, but these aren’t deal-breakers for most people.
