The Huawei Mate 20 X is a massive smartphone that is packed with power and endurance for gamers and productivity lovers.
Is bigger always better when it comes to smartphones? Huawei, with its new Mate 20 series device, definitely hopes so. The Huawei Mate 20 X is a super-sized smartphone designed for gamers and productivity fans who want larger screens.
What will you see here?
Price and availability:
Starting in mid-January, the Mate 20 X in midnight blue will be available for £799 in the UK and AED 2,499 in the UAE. This is just AED 100 more than the Mate 20 and hundreds of AED less than the Mate 20 Pro.
It only comes in one structure: 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM. Given that the best phones easily reach the AED 3,000 level these days, the Mate 20 X provides amazing value.
Design:
The Huawei Mate 20 X smartphone looks similar to its smaller sister, the Huawei Mate 20. But it’s much larger and more comfortable. It sports a similar drop notch and small corners on its large 7.2-inch screen, giving it an about 88 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Overall, the Mate 20 X packs a lot of technology into a stylish, premium-looking package. It’s broader and heavier than other tablet pcs. And most people will find it unsuitable for casual usage. Despite its size, the smooth rounded edges on the rear and its slender 8.3mm profile give it a good in-hand feel.
There are textured laser-cut measurements performed on the back. That is supposed to provide texture for grip and to prevent fingerprints. But they don’t really do either.
The back also has a unique square camera bump that holds a triple-lens camera setup. The fingerprint scanner is located immediately below and is a little difficult to reach, but this is a common trend with this phone.
The Mates 20 X isn’t particularly rough, but its heavy 232-gram weight and all-metal body with a smooth glossy finish don’t help. The IP rating is just IP53, which means it won’t survive a swim. And you’ll definitely want to put it in a case, especially one with a ring for a drop-free grip.
The red highlight around the textured power button, as on the Mate 20 Pro, is a wonderful small element that elevates the phone’s design. A pair of touch and strong volume rockers are located just above the power buttons.
Screen:
So, what can you say about the screen of the Huawei Mate 20 X smartphone other than that it’s huge? The first thing to notice is that the resolution is just 1080p, despite its size. That’s surprising given the 346 pixels per inch on a 7.2 panel.
As a result, you may not want to use the Mate 20 X with a VR headset. Although 346ppi is still enough for most work. The text is clear, and everything looks colorful and full of power.
The device confirmed our gut beliefs. While the screen doesn’t get nearly as bright as the Mate 20 Pro. It performs somewhat better on color coverage, offering 98.7 percent of the sRGB range in the normal color option, compared to 95.4 percent for the Mate 20 Pro. The brightness would be the deciding factor. But because they’re both AMOLED, it’s a tie: they’re both effectively perfect.
A phone this large should have a decent screen to look at, and the Mate 20 X does. Yes, it has fewer pixels per inch than its smaller opponent, But it still has a pixel density that means most people can’t see the difference at 10in or further away from your eyes — that’s good.
Battery
The Mate 20 X has a large 5,000 mAh battery that comfortably outdoes most other best phones and is ideal for heavy users. A good day and a half of gaming, surfing the web and watching videos can easily be stretched to two days if you’re conservative. The phone can last even longer for light to heavy users.
Of course, the large battery size isn’t the only reason for the Mate 20 X’s durability. The power-efficient Kirin 980 chip and a bevy of battery optimization options also help. The 7nm chipset is intended to optimize performance based on use. Under the battery options, you may select the power-saving mode. Which stops background app syncing and reduces screen visual effects to save power. You may also dim the UI and let the phone check and improve your battery performance.
Even an hour playing PUBG on high settings uses just roughly 7-8 percent of the battery. Which is wonderful news for people who want to spend a few hours on mobile gaming without worrying about their phone dying.
If you don’t put too much pressure on the phone, you can get about 23 hours of continuous movie playback or 6 hours of intense gaming. Even after a day of heavy use that also included more than 12 hours of on-screen time. The Mate 20 X had an amazing 26 percent battery life at night.
Cameras of the Huawei Mate 20 X
The Huawei Mate 20 X shares the same triple-lens Leica setup as the Mate 20 Pro and performs similarly. The back camera has a 40MP focal lens with an f/1.8 aperture, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens (f/2.2), and an 8MP telephoto lens (f/2.4).
The Mate 20 X is packed with three lenses, as well as a dual point flash system, to shoot a range of beautiful images. Whether you’re up close to your subject in macro mode, want to pack more into your design with the ultra-wide-angle lens, or want to take great nighttime photographs.
The camera app features a multitude of choices that allow for variable composition. And are put out in a user-friendly manner that will not confuse the beginner user. Swiping through these choices will allow you to create smooth blur images that no longer require a human subject. Portrait shots with near-perfect edge recognition, a night mode that catches more light, and a pro mode that allows you to fine-tune things like ISO, exposure, and autofocus.
Other options, such as Light Painting, colorless, HDR, etc, may be found in the ‘More’ tab. These possibilities are interesting, though the touch is cheesy. You may also use the camera to scan documents or enable Hi-Vision to perform a variety of AR services such as shopping object identification, QR code scanning, and translation. And, for the most part, it works well.
With enough light, the camera can capture gorgeous and detailed images. Zoomed-in images lose some information, and pollution creeps in quickly in low-light settings. However, the results are still far superior to those of most phones.
Is Mate 20 X waterproof?
The Huawei Mate 20 X has IP53 protection. This means it is sensitive to water-dropping as a spray at any angle up to 60 degrees from straight. As a result, the Huawei Mate 20 X cannot be washed with water for a longer length of time.
Does Huawei Mate 20 X have Google apps?
Although Huawei has since released 5G versions of its Mate 30 devices. These new models lack Google apps, making the Mate 20 X 5G the logical choice for Huawei fans looking to get in on 5G early.
Conclusion
The 7.2-inch Huawei Mate 20 X is big to carry around. And using it one-handed is difficult. However, because of its large screen. It is ideally suited to media-rich jobs like video streaming and gaming, as well as reading papers and ebooks. And Its long battery life is a real winner, too.
