How to share books in Apple Books- A guide for all sharing features!

When you are reading a nice book, you will want to share it with your friends and family. You would like to share the whole book or some excerpts from the chapter you are reading. Sharing is much easier in the digital version of reading from Apple Books. Here is how to share books in Apple Books with your friends and family easily:

How to share excerpts from a book in Apple Books?

If you are a frequent reader, you may sometimes find an excerpt while reading which you want to share with others. In the electronic version of books, it is quite simple. With the revamped version of Apple Books, you can share excerpts from any book or chapter with friends and families.

  1. In a book, drag across the text you’d like to share.
  2. Then, In the menu that appears next to the selection, tap the arrow button until the Share button is visible.
  3. Tap on the Share button on the top.
  4. In the share sheet, select the method you want to use. For this example, we’ll use Mail.
  5. Add an address of your friend for the email message.
  6. Add your own text to the body of the message if you like.
  7. Tap Send present on the top corner.

Share a PDF

Due to the issue of copyright, you sometimes cannot share your books. But, PDF files usually don’t have copy-protection attached to them, so you can share your books in PDF format. Here is how to do so:

  1. Tap the more (…) button beneath the image of the PDF you want to share.
  2. Tap Share PDF present on the bottom.
  3. In the share sheet, tap the method you want to use. For this example, we’ll use Mail.
  4. Add an address of your friend for the email message.
  5. Add your own text to the body of the message, you can write what you liked about the book you are sharing.
  6. Tap Send on the top right corner.

Copyright laws are fairly easy to enforce with a book in digital form. If the bookseller builds copy-protection into the book, you won’t be able to share it in its entirety. You can, however, share a link to the book on the Book Store. So let’s see how it is done:

  1. Tap the more (…) button beneath the cover image of the book you want to share.
  2. Tap Share book from the bottom of the page.
  3. In the share sheet, tap the method you want to use. For this example, we’ll use Mail.
  4. Add an address of your friend for the email message.
  5. Add your own text to the body of the message.
  6. Tap Send from the top right corner.

Share a book through iCloud Family Sharing

Family Sharing lets you and up to five other family members share access to amazing Apple services. Sharing books through iCloud Family Sharing becomes fairly easy. Any family member can download any book that any other family member has purchased without any extra charge. It’s the digital equivalent of handing a book you’ve purchased to someone else in your household. This also works for audiobooks.

  1. Open the Books app.
  2. Tap the Reading Now tab from the bottom left corner.
  3. Tap the account icon (the small button with your picture on the top right corner)
  4. Under Family Purchases, tap the family member who originally purchased the book you want to read.
  5. Tap Books below the ‘Update’ option.
  6. Select All Books, or use one of the genre buttons to browse through the books.
  7. Tap the download button to download the book to your library.
  8. Select the Read button to read the book.

How to gift a book to someone else in Apple Books?

Gifting books is like a traditional practice. If you think you can’t do this digitally, that’s where you are wrong. You can easily send this piece of good luck as a gift that too with just a few clicks! This can be your real saviour when you want to gift someone whom you can’t visit. As long as you’ve set up an Apple ID and you have the email address for the friend you want to send a book to, you’ll be able to complete your purchase quickly. Here is how to do it:

  1. Tap Book Store present in the centre at the bottom.
  2. Select a book you want to give as a gift.
  3. Tap the gift button next to ‘Buy’.
  4. Enter an email address for the recipient.
  5. Tap Today or any date you desire can be selected.
  6. Tap Next from the top right corner.
  7. Select a theme for the gift.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. Click on Buy from the top.
  10. Tap Buy Now.
  11. Enter your Apple ID credentials to complete the purchase.

While reading a book, you might wonder if you can share this book with friends and family member. Well, with the iCloud Family Sharing, you can easily share books with your family members. You can recommend them new books to read too. Moreover, if you want to share an excerpt from any book, which you feel inspiring, you can easily select it and share. You can share the whole book, in most of the cases, as PDF format or directly send the link for the book. Also, with the gifting option, you can gift books to anyone quite easily. No wonder sharing has become so easy in the digital world of reading!
