The Amazfit T-Rex 2 promotes itself as an affordable alternative to the leading running watches. Garmin watches like the Instinct 2 or Forerunner series are also travel companions for outdoor activities.
The T-Rex 2 is a genuine outdoor watch: it is strong, big, waterproof, and much is made in the advertising about what it is having undergone “15 military-grade durability tests.” It certainly has the right aesthetic. It is specially designed for a very moderate price, including a fair amount of sports modes, dual-band GPS, and a sensor array with a barometer and gyroscope for elevation and compass functions.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 was introduced on June 1 and will be sold for a suggested retail price of $230/£219 starting on June 30, 2022. It also can be ordered from Amazfit directly or from third parties, including John Lewis, Amazon, and Argos.
At launch, three colorways—Astro Black & Gold, Ember Black, and Wild Green—will be offered for the T-Rex 2. In contrast, the T-Rex 2 costs around half as much as the Amazfit T-Rex Pro.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 has a rugged design, 10ATM water resistance, and STD-MIL-810G certification.
Even though the T-Rex 2 is more significant and bulkier than many other smartwatches, it is surprisingly lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 has a blocky, hefty design with a polymer outer shell, similar to a G-Shock. Additionally, it has a design reminiscent of Garmin, with four buttons and a steel loop or nodule in place of the fifth. The watch face is extensive, having a 1.39″ AMOLED screen measuring 434px by 434px, which is bright to the tune of 1,000 nits. Also, the strap that comes with it is a thick rubber. The watch is unquestionably durable, with 10ATM water resistance and passing military tests that included being “strong enough to even be operated4 even in extreme temperatures as low as -30°C.” Still, the bulk and the broad watch face make it grow more than some competitors.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 excels in terms of battery life, providing another example of the fallacy of the claim that an AMOLED display will shorten battery life. The watch can run in smartwatch mode for up to 24 days and charges from 0% to 100% in two hours. This will be considerably lessened if you enable the always-on screen option.
When battery saver mode is enabled, the battery life increases to 45 days, while heavy use of the watch reduces it to 10 days. This is still a week and a half! In complete dual-band multi-GNSS mode, the GPS battery lasts 26 hours. In a balanced way, it lasts 50 hours; in Power Saving GPS battery mode, it lasts 58 hours.
Both Android and iPhone smartphones are compatible with the Amazfit T-Rex 2.
The phone must have the Zepp companion app loaded to sync data with the watch, which runs Zepp OS.
The program needs a bit more time to develop because it looks to be missing some essential functionality.
Given its extensive selection of sports modes—more than 150—the T-Rex 2 thrives in this area. If you turn on the ExerSense algorithm in the watch, eight activities, including walking and swimming in a pool. And cycling outside can be automatically monitored and registered without choosing a workout. There are many more modes, including indoor strength training, swimming, and skiing.
With warm-ups and cool-downs included, Amazfit T-Rex 2 offers “training templates,” essentially workout programs on your watch. The watch’s primary target market, adventure enthusiasts, should appreciate its compelling sleep tracking features, recognition of strength training exercises, and utilities like the built-in barometer and compass.
Amazfit T-Rex 2 includes more than 150 workouts, and if you take the time to look through them all. You’ll uncover workout alternatives for team sports, including rugby and tennis, and individual sports such as climbing and rowing, in contrast to the more usual running, cycling, and swimming.
Performance metrics are available on the Zepp app after your workout. Here you may view data on your heart rate and pace while running. As well as estimations of your VO2 Max and the aerobic and anaerobic effects of your workout. And also as measurements of the altitude and gradient of your route.
A decent lot of data is presented when browsing these stats without feeling. As though you are being inundated with information all at once. You get an intimate grasp of how you’re doing because all the crucial indicators are covered.
The Amazfit T-Rex2 is suitable for splashes, snow, showering, swimming, snorkeling, or non-high-speed activities because it receives a rating of 10 ATM for water resistance up to 100 meters.
Utilizing optical sensors integrated into Amazfit smartwatches, it detects blood pressure in less than 30 seconds.
With enough fitness functions, this watch is reasonably priced, offers an excellent overall experience, and gives you helpful information about your workout.
Its high claims of durability are what make it unique. However, we could not test this to the limit. It performed admirably in all testing scenarios and appeared as an all-weather wearable. While some may not like the T-Rex 2’s appearance or would like a device with more progress. Most people looking for a dependable fitness companion will find that this item meets most of the most crucial boxes.
