Fitbit’s newest Versa 3, as expected, replaces the previous Versa 2. And here is Fitbit Versa 2 vs Fitbit Versa 3. The functions they both share as well as the additional features included in the current model. The Fitbit Versa 3 was introduced in September 2020, a year after the Versa 2 was released in 2019 – thus the previous model isn’t quite obsolete. Fitbit is still offering the older model in certain of its overseas markets, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

In terms of fitness and health functions, there aren’t many distinctions, but runners and bikers will undoubtedly love the Versa 3’s special capabilities, and the Versa 3 is constantly introducing new capabilities with each new software update.

Fitbit is selling both versions while supplies last, and the Versa 2 is on sale at certain big shops for the next few months. The Versa 3 retails for £199 in the UK and $229 in the US, the same price as the Versa 2. At the Fitbit Store, the Versa 2 has become £169 in the UK (£30 cheaper than the Versa 3), while in the US the price has been cut from $20 to $179.

They share all of Fitbit’s amazing full-day activity tracking and workout features, such as Active Zone Minutes, smartphone notifications, best-in-class sleep-quality monitoring, and guided breathing sessions, but so do the cheaper Fitbit Charge 4 and even the entry-level Fitbit Inspire 2.

Only Fitbit smartwatches with color touchscreens can display on-screen exercises, but there’s no difference between the Versa 2 and 3, save for the Versa 3’s slightly bigger better screen. Both are waterproof to 50 meters and can manage your phone’s Spotify Premium playlists.

GPS built in versa 3 now

GPS build in versa 3 now

The main distinction between the Versa 2 and Versa 3 is the latter’s built-in GPS. For pace and distance measures, the older Versa 2 connects to your phone’s GPS. The GPS embedded into the wristwatch eliminates the need to bring your phone with you on runs, hikes, and bike trips.

If this doesn’t worry you and you’re going to be out with your phone anyhow, the Versa 2’s built-in GPS will suffice. However, using the built-in GPS will dramatically lower daily battery life, and the Versa 3, like the Versa 2, can change to connect to the phone if you wish to preserve watch energy.

Google Assistant as well as Alexa

Another distinction between the Versa 2 and 3 is the addition of Google Assistant speech capability in the current edition.

The Versa 3 can use Amazon‘s Alexa, much like the Versa 2, but it can also use Google Assistant for voice requests. Even with the Versa 2, Alexa wasn’t my favorite feature, but it’s possible Google may do more with the Assistant component, especially because it’s in the process of acquiring Fitbit.

Both smartwatches feature a microphone for interacting with the voice assistant, but only the Versa 3 has a speaker, which provides the assistant(s) a voice to answer you with.

Along with voice input when using your preferred assistant, the Versa 3 allows you to make and answer calls on your wrist through Bluetooth, and Android users will be able to react to messages on the move just by speaking.

The option to accept calls via the Versa 3 works quite well, and allows you to keep your phone when you’re worried about phone theft – that alone might be worth the extra money. It brings Fitbit closer to some of the Apple Watch’s capabilities. For additional information on the differences between the two competing smartwatches.

Heart-rate monitor: Fitbit Versa 2 vs Fitbit Versa 3

Fitbit’s PurePulse heart-rate monitor has been upgraded with the Versa 3. PurePulse 2.0 is an optical tracker with several paths. This implies that it analyses many channels to provide a more thorough picture of each heartbeat, making it more precise and trustworthy.

The Versa 3 may also be configured to send you notifications when your heart rate is too high or too low. Your medical practitioner will then be given a report.

Versa 3 has a bigger screen

The Versa 3 has a 1.58-inch display with a resolution of 336×336 pixels. Versa 2 has a 1.39 display with a screen resolution of 300×300 pixels. The Versa 3 watch case is 40.48mm x 40.48mm x 12.35mm, as opposed to 39.95mm x 39.84mm x 12.15mm for the Versa 2.

Battery life and charging: Fitbit Versa 2 vs Fitbit Versa 3

Battery life and charging: Fitbit Versa 2 vs Fitbit Versa 3

Both Versa 2 and 3 charge in around two hours and should last for about six days, depending on usage. Using the Versa 3’s GPS all the time, for example, would lower battery life to 12 hours. However, the Versa 3 has Fast Charging, which provides one day’s battery life in just 12 minutes.

 What’s in the box?

Both Versa versions come with one tiny and one big strap, allowing you to select the optimum fit for your wrist. The Versa 2 charger is substantially larger than the Versa 3 magnetic charger. The Versa 2’s silicone Classic Band includes a genuine buckle that feels solid but is also easy to put on and take off.

Versa 3’s silicone Infinity Band, on the other hand, feels noticeably less secure, as it has a peg rather than a buckle. You can get several bands for the Versa 3 – and the Fitbit Sense, which is nearly identical in design – but they all feature the far more practical buckle.

The Versa 3 is significantly easier to replace bands than the Versa 2, which features a cumbersome strap-switch procedure that will put your patience and fingers to the test.

Versa 2: More colors

Versa 2: More colors

The Versa 2 has more color possibilities, with three case aluminum colors and five strap colors.  There are also two Special Edition Versa 2 variants with Woven bands, available in Smoke or Navy & Pink.

Conclusion

The Versa 3 is a more capable sports watch for runners and cyclists thanks to its built-in GPS. However, the Versa 2 can achieve the same goals simply connecting to your smartphone, so if you’re OK with carrying your phone on runs and rides, the Versa 3 may not be worth the premium. The Versa 3 boasts more precise heart-rate readings, which may entice novices to the latest model but not current Versa 2 users.

The addition of call-taking on the Versa 3 is a significant step forward, and both Google Assistant and Alexa users will welcome this as an option. If you can locate a Versa 2 for a low price, it is still a terrific fitness smartwatch — not as good as the Versa 3, but only a few functions behind.
