Canon Pixma TS5120 printer review-Print your important documents fast and easy!

A Canon Pixma TS5120 is an entry-level all-in-one printer designed for household usage. This inkjet printer is one of the most affordable in the category, costing only $70. Although the feature set stresses simplicity, a duplexer is included for printing on both sides.

Design

The TS5120 is a tiny camera with a black or white body. At 16.8 inches wide, 12.5 inches deep, & 5.8 inches tall, it’s tiny enough to fit on a desk. It weighs a little more than 14 pounds empty, making it easy to move around. The modest 2.5-inch LCD solely serves as a display, not as a touch screen. Physical buttons, on the other hand, make stand-alone functioning easier. There is no automated document reader on top of this printer, and there is no SD Card port or USB direct print interface for printing from the memory card and thumb drive.

On the top, there is no automatic document feeder. The paper cassette is located at the bottom of the chassis, with an output tray slightly above it. To support prints, the outputs tray is short & features a small tongue that pulls out on a hinge. The output and input trays are both fragile. I found it difficult to replace the partial lid for such an input cassette.

The paper cassette may carry up to 100 sheets of plain paper. An additional, vertical paper tray is located on the rear of the machine. After lifting the paper support, you can load up to 100 plain paper sheets or twenty 4-by-6-inch sheets.

Print Speed

The five-page text document was produced in 36.1 seconds, and 8.3 pages per minute, by the TS5120. That’s an approximate estimate of average speed. The Epson XP-640, for example, was a few seconds quicker, clocking in at 33.1 seconds.

The TS5120 also prints mixed text and color graphics documents with average speed. This printer was substantially slower than the fastest machine the Epson XP-640, which takes just 1 minute and 11 seconds (or 2.4 ppm).

The Canon Pixma TS5120 makes two-sided text prints relatively slowly, at 2.2 ppm, compared to the average of 3.1 ppm. The 10-page text file took more than just a minute longer to print than the average at 4 min, 29 sec.

The TS5120, on the other hand, is one of the quickest printers for two-sided color documents that mixed text and images. This TS5120 outperformed virtually all other models, printing the six-page document in 2.2 ppm. The TS5120 is 40 seconds quicker than the average of three minutes, 27 seconds, clocking in at 2 min, 47 seconds.

The TS5120 also outperformed the competition when it came to printing the test image at high quality on letter-size photographic paper. It takes four minutes and 3 seconds, or 55 seconds less than the average time. However, some other models were substantially faster. For example, the Canon Pixma TS6020 produced the identical image in 1 minute and 54 seconds.

At default settings, the TS5120 printed a 4-by-6 page in 1 min, 2 seconds, and 2 min, 3 seconds at Top Quality settings.

Copy and Scan Speed

In copying tests, the TS5120 performed around average. It took 14.4 seconds to copy a black-and-white page, which is about 1 second faster than average. The Epson XP-640 took 11.8 seconds to duplicate the identical document, whereas the HP Envy 5540 takes 21.9 seconds.

The Canon Pixma TS5120 took 29.3 seconds to make a color copy, which was somewhat under the average and 10 seconds slower than the lightning-fast Canon Pixma TS6020. In 23 seconds, the Epson XP-640 produced a color copy.

The TS5120 performed faster than average, scanning in color at 600 dpi into JPEG format in 61 seconds. The Epson XP-640, our Editor’s Pick, completed this assignment in 41.6 seconds. The HP Envy 5540, on the other hand, took 1:31 to complete the same scan.

The TS5120 was lightning quick when scanning in black & white to PDF at around 300 dpi. The TS5120 is the quickest model in our test so far, taking only 7.3 seconds to create a PDF. The Epson XP-640, on the other hand, took 16.1 seconds.

Canon Pixma TS5120: Ink Output

The TS5120’s overall output quality was significantly above normal for an inkjet, thanks to its excellent text, but graphics quality was ordinary and picture quality was somewhat below par. At least with basic typefaces, text quality must be adequate for any commercial purpose, even at small sizes.

Colors were usually well-saturated in the graphics component of our suite. With fine colored lines and distinguishing between similar tones, the Canon Pixma TS5120 performed admirably. Several backgrounds appeared faded, several had moderate banding (a consistent pattern of striations), and several drawings had to dither inside the form of dot patterns. Graphics are suitable for usage in the home and school.

The photo prints have been on the light side, with such a small loss of detail in certain bright spots. The printouts were OK, however, the colors didn’t jump or exhibit contrast as well as they do with Canon’s six-ink printers, such as the TS8120 and TS9120. On a monochrome print, there was a little tint. This model isn’t a fantastic pick for aspiring photographers because the picture quality is fine for photographs meant for a noticeboard or refrigerator door.

Setup and Software

The Canon Pixma TS5120 is easy to set up. Following the on-screen instructions until the printer instructs it to proceed with the “Getting Started” printed guide after removing the packaging tape from the exterior inside the device, you following an on instructions until the printer tells you to proceed with the “Getting Started” written guide.

It was simple and easy to connect my PC, phone, and Wi-Fi network. I utilized the WPS technique for Wi-Fi by pushing the button of my wireless router. The printer, on the other hand, took a long time to connect.

Although the all-in-one arrives with a CD-ROM, the printed manual instructs you to download software from the internet. If you pick the complete installation, be aware that it will also contain My Picture Garden, which would be a huge download that you may not require. The display said that downloading the program will take 7 minutes at first, then increased to 9 minutes.

My Image Garden is capable of a wide range of tasks, including scanning. You may not even need this software if you have a photo organizer and editor. It was tough for me to get rid of it after it appeared on my Desktop computer, for example.

The paper-registration feature on the TS5120 was a little perplexing to me. You must register your paper type when you pull out all the paper cassettes. However, unless you tick the option that says, “Let the app modify my printing settings,” the sheet type does not change while you’re on your PC.

Canon Pixma TS5120 Apps

You may connect the Canon Pixma TS5120 to your wireless connection and print from your smartphone or tablet using the Canon Print app. iOS devices can print using AirPrint. I easily followed the directions on the printer’s display to set up the TS5120 using my Android phone (which supports an iOS device also). It displayed a password that I entered into the Canon Print application on my phone’s touch interface. I kept on trying to touch the screen just on TS5120, although it’s just a display.

The TS5120 boots up rapidly, taking only 6 seconds to do so.

Conclusion

The Canon Pixma TS5120 is indeed a simple all-in-one with a coupler & two paper trays. You get great results in a reasonable price version for a reasonable price. Standalone functioning, on the other hand, is less than graceful due to the absence of touch-screen capabilities.

Finally, the inferior quality of two-sided printouts is disappointing, and the higher-than-average ink expenditures will mount up over time. The Epson XP-640 performs practically everything quicker and has reduced ink costs for around the same price — including faster duplex printing without sacrificing print quality.
