Moccamaster KBGV Select- A coffee machine to start your day with freshness!

Share

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is a brew enthusiast’s coffee machine. This Dutch-made appliance has an industrial design that hides smart technology that allows it to make a tasty pot of coffee at the perfect temperature in just six minutes.

The Technivorm Moccamaster has received praise from the Specialty Coffee Association for its revolutionary brew features, but it comes at a high price. Perfectly prepared coffee comes at a premium here, especially because it lacks the convenience features seen in versions such as the Ninja Specialty Coffee Machine. The Moccamaster, on the other hand, is designed for those who value superb coffee over bells & whistles.

We’re here to give our thoughts on where Moccamaster belongs among top coffee makers.

Price

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is indeed the company’s most recent model, which debuted in Europe in late 2019 as the Moccamaster KBG Select. The MSRP is $349, which would be close to the current Amazon asking price. The brewer is covered by a 5-year warranty, and Technivorm will fix it for the rest of its life.

It’s essentially identical to Technivorm’s earlier Moccamaster KBG, which cost $20 less (However, it does not appear to be in operation any longer.). The KBGV Select, on the other hand, can brew a half or full carafe, whilst the KBG can only produce a full carafe. The KBGV Select also has an individual hot plate that regulates the temperature automatically based on how much coffee is made. (The KBG’s hot plate was controlled by a manual switch.)

Two paper filters are included with the purchase of the Moccamaster KBGV Select. You can buy an appropriate permanent filter to save money in the long term.

Design

The dimensions of the Moccamaster KBGV Select are 14 x 12.75 x 6.5 inches. It’s far less bulky than Ninja’s more feature-rich alternatives, and it should fit nicely on smaller countertops. A coffee scoop and a glass carafe are provided.

The KBGV Select, like most of Moccamaster’s coffee makers, has an industrial look that is distinctive but not to everyone’s taste. The copper heat source is on the left, with a connected 40-oz water tank on top. A plastic cone-shaped brew basket, as well as a 9-hole spray arm, are located on the opposite side. The brew basket & spray arm do take some installation, but it’s not difficult.

The Moccamaster KBGV Select is available in nine different colors to match your kitchen’s decor. You can opt for a moderate like polished silver or a vibrant candy apple red to create a statement.

The independent hot plate is located on the bottom, along with two toggle controls: one for power and another for brew size (half- or full-carafe). The hot plate turns off automatically after 1 hour and 20 minutes, so there is no way to manage it manually.

Features

This Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is just a sophisticated coffee machine. With the use of a copper heating element, it can attain standard industry temperature (196°F – 205°F) in less than a minute and maintain them.

When water boils, it passes through a glass container and into a 9-hole spray arm, which disturbs uniformly over coffee grounds in a cone-shaped basket. Best of all, depending on the brew size, the KBGV Select can perform it in 4 to 6 minutes.

When it comes to brewing size, this Moccamaster KBGV Select has a switch beside the power button that lets you choose between a full or half carafe. It is a feature that wasn’t available in prior Moccamaster KBG versions.

With an individual hot plate, it is the base temperature that adjusts how much coffee brews. The Moccamaster KBGV Select maintains coffee warm. It’ll stay around at 175°F and 185°F for 100 minutes before shutting off on its own.

Performance

We’ve enjoyed some of the smoothest coffee from Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select. You can utilize paper filters from Moccamaster, mineral water, and freshly ground coffee.

The uniformity of the coffee grinds is critical for getting the most out of Moccamaster. The first pot of coffee was prepared. A specialty black blend with overtones of chocolate — was silky smooth but a little bland. This is due to the beans not being ground finely enough.

I’ll admit that Ninja’s feature-packed machines’ delay-brew capabilities have spoilt me. I’d want to be able to get up to a fresh cup of coffee ready for me with a KBGV Select. The Moccamaster, on the other hand, can prepare a half carafe of coffee in under five minutes, so this isn’t a big concern.

The clever hot plate is a fantastic feature. Because it kept our coffee warm all morning long without us having to fiddle with the setting. It never set on fire.

If you’re the kind to get up before the rest of the family. This Moccamaster KBGV Select is among the quietest coffee makers we’ve ever heard. So you won’t wake anyone up with annoying whirring and grinding noises. (Instead, they greet with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.)

Ease of use

The lack of convenience features just on Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select has one advantage: it’s dead simple to use. Simply place a filter in the brew basket, fill the water reservoir with a tap, verify, or bottled water, and add coffee grounds (prefer a moderate grind ). The brewing process will begin as soon as the Moccamaster turns on.

Although no siren sounds whenever the coffee is ready. As well as the Moccamaster is among the nicest coffee machines we’ve always used. When you manually time brew cycles, the results are verified. A half carafe requires over four and a half minutes to prepare. Whereas a full carafe takes just over six minutes.

For almost an hour and a half, the hot plate maintains a constant temperature. As a result, it’s simple to grab a few cups of coffee all through the morning without having to worry about it getting cold.

One thing to think about is capacity. The European-made Moccamaster KBGV Select does have a 40-oz maximum capacity, compared to Ninja’s 50-oz maximum capacity.

The water reservoir is not removable, as is the case with several more convenience-oriented coffee machines, which means that filling the tank takes a bit more effort. Washing the plastics brew basket & glass carafe with warm, warm water and detergent recommend every 3 months, or after 100 cycles, according to Technivorm. Descaling the machine owing to calcium accumulation recommend each three months, or just after 100 cycles.

The downsides!

This Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is difficult to criticize since. While it just does one thing (produce a single pot of coffee), it will do it effectively.

I like to have a variety of coffee flavors in the morning coffee each week. That’s only true for the beans I use in the Moccamaster. Coming from Ninja’s most complicated coffee machines, I missed having the option of making an iced coffee and cold brew. Programmable alternatives like as delay-brew and single-cup servings forgot as convenience features.

Conclusion

A Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is indeed a wonderful choice if you take your coffee seriously. Sure, it’s pricey, but you’ll be getting some of the most advanced brewing technology available in a household coffee machine. In addition, Technivorm offers a 5-year warranty as well as lifelong repairs. You get what you paid for in this case.

The KBGV Select’s design isn’t for everyone, as well as its plastic brew bag may be particularly off-putting for some. If looks are important to you, the equivalent Bonavita Connoisseur One-Touch offers a much more simplified appearance and costs half as much as the Moccamaster. You will, however, be forsaking Technivorm’s better build quality and lengthy guarantee.

You might alternatively opt for the Braun Brew Sense Drip Coffee Machine. That includes a preset 24-hour timer and enables single-cup brewing.

Meanwhile, if you want to play around with a coffee set. The Ninja Specialty Coffee Machine comes with a range of brew styles and sizes, so you can try something new every day. It also has a programmable timer and a created milk frother for those special occasions. However, it will take up somewhat more counter space than the Moccamaster.
