Huami has been on a tear lately, releasing a series of well-received fitness trackers that offer features and value that compete with the likes of Fitbit and Garmin. The company’s Amazfit GTS 2 and GTR 2 are its most full-featured smartwatches to date, and Huami has also added more affordable options to the lineup with the GTR 2e and GTS 2e. If you’re seeking a great fitness tracker but want to save money, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini is an excellent option at just $99.
The Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 are the company’s flagship fitness trackers and offer a wealth of features for their relatively affordable price tags of $150 each. Both have large, bright displays that are easy to read in direct sunlight, and they’re packed with sensors to track fitness and health data.
The GTS 2 also includes a built-in GPS for tracking your runs and rides without needing your phone, while the GTR 2 adds support for NFC payments and music playback.
If one doesn’t need all the bells and whistles, Huami also offers the slightly watered-down GTR 2e and GTS 2e. These watches still have all the essential features you need in a fitness tracker, but they ditch some extras like GPS and NFC support. They’re also cheaper than the flagship models, coming in at $140 each.
At the budget end of the spectrum is the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini, which is available for just $99. This little one still has all the key features of a fitness tracker, including heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, sleep tracking, and more.
It doesn’t have some elements of its more expensive siblings – such as built-in GPS or support for music playback – but it’s still an excellent value for its low price tag.

Amazfit GTS 2 mini by Huami is now available worldwide in various colors. The newer version is available in a blue breeze, meteor black, and flamingo pink colors, while the older version is available in flamingo pink, sage green, and midnight black.
It comes with a very inexpensive price tag of $99.99/£69.00.
When talking about design, it is quite similar to its bigger colleague Huami Amazfit GTS 2. The difference is its size and weight. It is comparatively lightweight and slimmer than its big sibling, with a weight of 19g and a 40mm rectangular frame compared to 24g and 42mm casing in GTS 2.
However, it has the same rectangle look as Amazefit GTS, launched in 2019. The top part of the case is made up of titanium alloy, which looks like a metal grey aluminum, and at the bottom, there is a sensor for heart rate monitoring.
At the right-hand side of the casing, there is a watch crown that is unlike the one we get in Apple watches. Rather it acts like a push button to switch between the screen. It does not rotate like the Apple watch series, which is quite annoying. The company claims it is waterproof with up to 50 meters of water. However, it is more water resistant than waterproof.
Moreover, you will get a 20mm removable silicone strap, which seems quite durable in this range. Overall, with the price it comes with, it features good quality materials.

Huami always gives more attention to health and fitness tracking. And despite offering it at such an affordable price, they haven’t sacrificed anything related to it. There are too many things the company has packed in this small device.
First, it has Biotracker 2 data tracker, which provides heart rate readings and blood oxygen data. It also consists of main motion sensors like a gyroscope and accelerometer, built-in GPS, and many other things.
Moreover, it features a PAI health assessment system, which gives scores and ensures regular heart pumping, and helps with breathing exercises based on sex, weight, and continuous heart rate. There’s a steps tracker, which is pretty accurate and provides your steps count to motivate you to keep moving to achieve your steps goal.
Amazfit 2 mini also has sleep monitoring which provides data on how long you slept and how well you slept. Sleep monitoring is quite normal nowadays, and sleep is the criterion that one must keep tracking. This is because your sleep can tell you a lot about your health, and good sleep can give you immense energy to go through the whole day.
Apart from these, it also features a stress tracker, female cycle tracking, etc. And as a tracker, it is quite accurate and reliable. One can enable a continuous heart rate monitor, which will check your heart pulse every few minutes, give you low heart rate warnings, and give messages when your heart rate shot up too.
The interface is quite similar to others in the market. However, controls are different. One can download numerous watch faces and edit at what place to show which metrics. Editing and adding new watch faces can be done through Zepp App. However, one can keep four watch faces that can be changed through Amazfit GTS 2 mini by holding and sliding the watch face. 50+ watch faces are available, with the most supporting Always-On mode.
One can access weather, music controls and pai score by sliding left. By sliding right, one can view notifications and health measurements. And by downward sliding, one can go to quick settings. Lastly, one can open the menu and select any function by pressing the crown button.
Amazfit GTS 2 mini provides less battery life than GTS 2 and 2e. However, there are quite a few things one can do to prevent drain. Usually, when used with all the features ON, GTS 2 mini can live upto 7 days on heavy usage. It adorns a 220 mAh battery used in the initial Amazfit GTS. If not interested in tracking your sleep, one can turn it OFF as it will provide 14 days of battery life. Moreover, if one avoids connecting it with their phone via Bluetooth and also turns off sensors, it can give upto 21 days of life. The company itself clarifies all these data. However, in practical use on heavy usage, it can barely be alive on Day 6.
Talking about charging, it uses the same charger that comes with GTS 2, and as its battery mAh is low, it takes less time to charge fully. From 0-100%, GTS 2 mini takes 2 hours to charge. This charger connects magnetically at the back of the case, and it fits well so that one doesn’t have to worry about falling from it.
Turn on sports modes, and you will see more than 70 modes. Not all provide the premium metrics, but most of them provide the basic things such as time, calories burnt, distance, heart rate etc. Earlier, there was an issue with the Amazfit’s GPS accuracy, which is now resolved as GTS 2 mini has good GPS accuracy.
Particularly for runners, it is quite a good deal as Amazefit provides a bunch of data for them to keep track of their activity. Runners can view their stride, laps, elevation, heart rate zones, cadence, and basic pace and distance. All these metrics can be available to view on Amazefit’s Zepp app. Moreover, GTS 2 mini support third-party apps like Relive, Strava, and Google Fit.
The shortcoming is that it is not that accurate when it comes to intense activity tracking, and you need to manually start the session as it cannot depict it automatically.
Amazfit GTS 2 mini has quite fewer smartwatch features than a lot of Amazfit GTS watches but enough for its range. Firstly if we connect it to our phone, it will show notifications. However, this feature is quite basic as one still doesn’t reply back through GTS 2 mini. Moreover, by pressing the crown button, one can access other smartwatch abilities like music control(only while workouts), world clock modes, weather forecasts, and a camera remote.
Now we will discuss what smartwatch abilities it lacks. First, it has no music player. Next, one cannot make calls through it via Bluetooth or LTE connectivity, and there’s no offline smart assistant.
The Amazfit GTS 2 mini is perfect for those who want to stay connected without being overwhelmed. With the ability to customize notifications for popular apps, you can easily turn them off for apps that aren’t as important to you. This way, you’ll never miss a beat, and you can stay focused on what’s most important to you.
Despite lacking these abilities, GTS 2 mini is decent for normal use.
GTS 2 mini is not waterproof; it is water resistant. According to ISO standard 22810:2010, the GTS 2 mini has a water resistance certification of 5ATM. This means that GTS 2 mini can be used for shallow-water activities, like doing swimming in a pool.
The mini does not include an internal speaker or voice assistant, unlike the GTS 2. Think about the GTR 2 or the GTS 2 if you want any of those characteristics in a smartwatch.
The Amazfit GTS has two major benefits over the Apple Watch: first, it can pair with an Android phone. Second, if you don’t use the always-on display, it has a 2-week battery life. You should be able to get 4 days of use out of it, even with the always-on feature turned on.
Amazfit GTS 2 mini is for those who want a basic smartwatch with no bells and whistles. It lacks many things which we can get in some premium ones but has too many at the cost it is available for. It can fulfill all the basic needs such as health monitoring, steps count, oxygen and blood level monitoring, 50+ editable faces, an app to show all your metrics, a better screen(as per cost), etc. So one can consider this if they want to experience a smartwatch at a low cost.
