Motiv Ring Review-The unique fashionable and digital ring!

Share

It can be difficult to find the proper tracker to match your needs. You can go for the fashionable option or the most technological one. But if you prefer a minimalist fashion, the Motiv ring is for you. Here is how everything you need to know about the Motiv Ring.

Motiv Ring

Most people assume a fitness tracker is a device you wear around your wrist. The Motiv defies this notion by combining an activity tracker, a sleep tracker, and a heart rate monitor into a single ring. With companies attempting to disguise their fitness trackers as jewelry, Motiv takes this to a new level. Although the features may be minimal in comparison to some competitors, it performs an excellent job of blending into your daily routine. It has a three-day battery life and is water-resistant. It works with iOS and, more recently, several Android and Google Pixel devices. The ring is fully functioning thanks to the Android OS Open Beta program. Although, the app is missing some features.

Ring Size

Purchasing a fitness tracker in the form of a ring is more difficult than purchasing one for your wrist. While a fitness band comes with the option of a small or large band, the Motiv requires you to first determine your ring size. So, before the ring, you will get a sizing kit in the mail. Although this increases the time of acquiring the ring, it’s a vital stage in the purchase process. In the box, you’ll find a variety of rings in various sizes, you need to put them on and pick which one fits your preferred finger. According to the company, you should not wear the ring on your pinky or thumb. It’s also recommended that you try on the ring for a day because your fingers are prone to expanding and contracting under changing circumstances.

Motiv does not utilize standard measurements, so you’ll need to use the sizing kit even if you know your ring size. One of the best things about the kit is that you get a $20 discount if you share the kit with friends and relatives who buy a ring after receiving yours. This saves the firm from having to send out another kit. After you find the size that fits you, go to the website and enter the unique code that came with your sizing kit. Furthermore, enter your desired size too.

Design

You get two color options to choose from, Slate Grey and a Rose Gold finish. The ring itself is large, measuring 8 x 2.5mm. So, if massive accessories are your thing, Motiv’s design will likely appeal to you. The ring has a single darker grey stripe to break up the design. When the Motiv is syncing, a small blue LED buried within the stripe illuminates. When looking at the ring from the side, you’ll see a flat portion where the inner isn’t exactly round. At the flat portion, you’ll find the tiny optical HRM. It is designed to make better contact with your skin. The heart rate monitor should be worn on the underside of your finger.

The Motiv may not seem weird to those who are used to wearing rings on their fingers. But it can take some time to get used to it if you are not used to wearing rings. The underside of the ring, which is most likely to come into contact with ordinary objects, easily picks up a few marks. Because the material underlying is plain of a much lighter color, the top coating may be thicker. Although it’s on the underside of the ring, it’s not obvious most of the time. However, a thicker covering or more durable material would be preferable. The Motiv is water-resistant up to 50 meters, so you can wear it while swimming or bathing. Moreover, the lightweight design would not even bother you while exercising or cause troubles in the middle of a workout.

Activity and sleep tracking

A 3-axis accelerometer and optical heart rate monitor tracks your activities throughout the day tracks your sleep cycle, and monitors your heart rate. All of this data is synced with the Motiv app. Although, this app is only accessible on iOS at the moment. The software is well-designed with straightforward navigation. You’ll notice a target of active minutes for the day at the top of the main screen. Moreover, you get a breakdown of steps, kilometres, distance covered, and calories burnt since your previous sync. It has a card-based layout to display the amount of time you slept and your resting heart rate throughout the night. More cards will emerge throughout the day for periods of 10 minutes or more of action, such as walking or running. Rather than automatically adding these periods, the app occasionally prompts you to confirm that you were active during them.

The Motiv can recognize common activities like runs and longer walks automatically, but you can also label or manually add alternative activities. It’s also possible to describe the intensity level, but this is more for your own use. Sleep tracking measures only the length of your sleep and not different sleep stages. The sleep card allows you to immediately discover a pattern of when you go to bed and when you get up. Thus, allowing you to attempt to correct your sleep pattern. A resting heart rate monitor can help you spot patterns. This can help you figure out if you’re growing fitter. Although you couldn’t get your current heart rate measurement, you can receive a heart rate breakdown from any active cards.

Easy to use app

The mobile app is easy and straightforward, but it isn’t particularly thorough. In the sleep category, you’ll see a customized bar chart. This chart compares each night’s sleep over the course of the week. You can tell when you were restless if you hold and hover over the chart. You may check miles, steps, calories, and beats per minute every 60 seconds by holding and dragging your finger over the chart. Weekly goals are also included in the app. You can even customize your weekly objective. Although it is set at 150 minutes of activity across seven days by default.

Easy syncing

The setup is straightforward, although a little unconventional. To sync with your phone, you need to twist the ring around your finger. You will see a purple light flash along the LED strip on the ring to indicate the job is done. Motiv comes with magnetic strips that attach to the charger. It functions similarly to a USB drive. It connects to your PC or laptop through a USB. Moreover, it comes with a keychain that magnetically closes when not in use.

Battery Life and Charging

The Motiv’s battery lasts three days according to the company. When the battery is low, you can either set it to send you a notification when the battery is low. Or you can just open the app to see the current charge level. The device is charged via a tiny USB cradle. The Motiv comes with two chargers, one of which can hang from your keys.

Conclusion

The Motiv has great features cramped into a small ring. Nonetheless, the software is well-designed. Motiv has a sleek design and is a less conspicuous solution for someone who does not prefer smartwatches. The ring is composed of titanium and finished in either brushed rose gold or slate grey. It’s 2.5mm thick and less than a penny in weight. When you get Motiv, you’ll get a sizing set to test on different sizes on a few different fingers. You need to wear your ring with the flat-sided sensor facing down, so the light strip is on top. It’s 165 feet waterproof, chemical and soap resistant, and lightweight. This is a tracker for the person who wants a brief of their daily activities rather than a detailed breakdown of sleep and fitness.
