Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1:One of the best tablets yet to hit the shelves!

Share

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is a significantly less expensive alternative to Apple’s iPad lineup and the outstanding Galaxy Tab S5e.

You lose a lot of graphical power, the punch of an OLED screen, and powerful multi-driver speakers when you downgrade. Those feature drops don’t seem so awful when you have to spend £130 less.

The only serious concern here is gaming performance. The graphics performance of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is much lower than that of the Amazon Fire HD 10. You may still play whatever game you want, but the visuals will have to be reduced to make them smooth. However, thanks to its significant win against the Amazon tablet, this Samsung now gets access to a lot more amazing Android games.

Price & Availability of Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1

In late 2019, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab A 10.1, It costs £199 at launch and is an upgrade to the previous tablet of the same name, which was released in 2016. That’s not quite half the price of Apple’s cheapest iPad, but it’s close, and it can be purchased for a lot less than that suggested price.

A 4G LTE variant is also available. It costs £249, which seems like a reasonable upgrade price. Both variants feature a 32GB storage capacity. You should consider the price of a microSD card, as this quantity of capacity does not go very far these days.

It is also available directly from Samsung, Amazon, Currys, and John Lewis.

The tablet costs $399.99 in the United States, but there are 64- and 128GB variants available if you need additional storage. Amazon and Samsung both have it.

Design & Build of Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1

Many low-cost Samsung tablets feature low-resolution displays. This one’s predecessor did not, but its design is now outdated. In the updated model, Samsung has fixed this issue.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 looks and feels fantastic, especially given its low price of around £219.20. When you consider the name on the back, it’s much more remarkable. Samsung’s low-end phones and tablets aren’t recognized for having class-leading designs.

It has a low-flex aluminum back with a polished texture finish comparable to that of an iPad. There’s no contest between the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and the Amazon Fire HD 10. The Samsung has a more luxurious feel about it.

On the rear, there is still a 1-inch-plus piece of plastic. This, according to Samsung, is for the scanners, which cannot transmit properly through metal. It does, however, reduce the cost of casing production.

Older Samsung tablets have also had their front buttons and huge borders removed. You’re left with the best-looking entry-level 10-inch tablet on the market. Its footprint is also substantially smaller than the Amazon Fire HD 10.

It’s 7.7mm thick and 460g in weight. It’s alright to hold it in one hand, but two is preferable.

So, does the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 have the same design as the Galaxy Tab S5e? No. Minor display ripples can be seen by applying finger pressure to the screen, and Samsung’s mid-range and high-end tablets are even thinner and lighter.

Features of Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1

Because of the low pricing, Tab A is missing a few noticeable features. For example, there is no fingerprint scanner or face unlock. You can either leave it alone or use a regular pin, password, or swipe pattern. This may not be a major deal if your tablet is kept at home and out of the hands of curious children and adults.

You also don’t get the greatest speakers available. A single speaker is located on the bottom of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1.

However did miss the proper stereo impact of the Galaxy S5e’s superb quad speakers, which has a good mid-range and possibly enough volume to overwhelm entry-level phones. And, more importantly, the dual speakers on the Fire HD 10.

If not disappointed, to see that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 offers only 32GB of storage. When the Android OS uses up a lot of space and games often take up several gigabytes, this isn’t much. As a result, it’s a shame that the greater capacity is only available in the United States.

Battery Life

The 6150mAh battery of the Tab A is smaller than the 7300mAh battery on the 2016 edition. Samsung claims it will last 13 hours, which is impressive by any tablet’s standards.

It lasted eight hours and 34 minutes. This is a better performance than the iPad 10.2, given that the testing is a little more demanding than light real-world use.

To gain a better idea of the battery’s endurance in a more familiar setting, you can watch YouTube for a little under three and a half hours it results are nearly identical to Samsung’s claims. When streaming video, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is expected to last 12 hours 56 minutes.

Users didn’t notice any significant drops, and also didn’t pick it up to find the battery had completely drained for no apparent reason.

This serves as a reminder that, while the greatest cameras and processors cost a lot of money, gold-standard battery life is inexpensive.

Cameras

One camera is on either side of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1. The back camera, the Samsung S5K4HA, sports an 8-megapixel sensor.

This isn’t too bad for a low-cost tablet. It features autofocus and smooths the Amazon Fire HD 10’s low-res back camera. This is something many take for granted on phones, but it isn’t always the case on low-cost tablets. You can’t capture close-up photographs without autofocus. They will merely be hazy.

The camera software on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 even allows you to zoom in two times as if it were a real telephoto camera. This may be going too far, as the camera quality isn’t up to 2x zooming.

Image quality is weak by mobile phone standards, but excellent in this category. If you don’t mind using a 10 tablet to snap photos, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 can shoot genuinely usable images in excellent lighting.

The front camera is a lower-end 5-megapixel sensor that, once again, exceeds expectations for a tablet that costs less than £219.20 and focuses on design and screen quality. It erases the Fire HD 10 selfie camera once more. However, it lacks the ability to capture fine facial features that many phones in this price range can.

One obvious advantage of having these very good camera sensors is video capturing. Both cameras can shoot 1080p video.  However, users don’t recommend using the back camera for video recording very often. The video on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1  is not fixed, thus it will look shaky as soon as you move.

Is the Galaxy Tab worth purchasing?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A, on the other hand, is a fantastic deal, especially for individuals who merely want to check their emails, watch Netflix, or surf the web. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A series is one of the best affordable tablets available, with performance and quality that puts rival tablets to shame.

Is there a SIM card slot on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

1x Type-C USB port, 1x Nano SIM card slot, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Micro SD (TF) card expansion, Power Off/On, and Speaker are all included in the port. The tablet has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.

Is it possible to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

The 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and 8.0 are now compatible with Android 10 thanks to Samsung’s One UI 2.0 update. Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) will get an update to One UI 3.1, which is based on Android 11.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) is one of the most obvious budget iPad rivals, costing far less than Apple’s lowest tablet.

It’s perfect for casual gaming, video, and the light online tinkering that so many of us do on our tablets. And its aluminum case is significantly more appealing than the Amazon Fire HD tablets’ utilitarian plastic.
