Ultrahuman bets on a redesigned smart ring to win back the American market after the Oura conflict

Ultrahuman Unveils New Smart Ring Amid Pending U.S. Clearance

In a recent announcement, Bangalore-based wearable tech company Ultrahuman revealed its latest product, the Ring Pro. This third-generation smart ring boasts an impressive 15-day battery life, a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Ring Air, which only offered four to six days. The Ring Pro is priced at $479 and will be available for pre-order worldwide, with the exception of the United States, starting March. The reason behind this exception traces back to a patent dispute with rival company, Oura, in 2025. (source)

The U.S. Market Disruption

Last October, Ultrahuman’s operation in the United States faced a significant disruption. The U.S. International Trade Commission, responsible for handling trade disputes, ruled in favor of Oura in a patent dispute. The ruling barred Ultrahuman from importing new ring stocks into the country, severely impacting the startup’s business as the U.S. market makes up about 45% of its 700,000 daily active users worldwide.

However, Ultrahuman fought back, filing a separate patent infringement case against Oura in the Delhi High Court in August 2025. The case is still pending.

A Way Around the Patent

Ultrahuman’s CEO, Mohit Kumar, revealed that to circumvent Oura’s patent, the company designed the Ring Pro differently. This new design has already been submitted to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for clearance, validating its legal importation to the country.

Ultrahuman’s Financial Performance

Despite the significant setback in the U.S., Ultrahuman still managed to pull off a respectable annualized revenue of around $150 million. This figure represents a considerable increase from the $64 million operating revenue reported in the fiscal year ending March 2025. Even with the ongoing litigation costs, tariffs, and redesign efforts, the company remains profitable after taxes.

Jade: A Real-time Biointelligence System

In addition to the Ring Pro, Ultrahuman also introduced Jade, a real-time biointelligence system. This innovative system analyzes user health data across its devices and services to generate personalized insights and recommendations.

Kumar explained that Jade is designed to respond to user’s health in real time and to provide actionable advice based on the user’s actions. Jade will be available to all Ultrahuman users, including those using the legacy Ring Air, and currently does not require a subscription.

The Ring Pro’s Features

The Ring Pro distinguishes itself with a redesigned heart rate sensing architecture to improve signal quality during sleep and a new dual-core processor to enhance data accuracy and on-device computing. With a storage capacity of up to 250 days of health data, the device weighs slightly more than the Ring Air, around 5-6% more. The Ring Air was launched in July 2023 at a price of $349.

In addition to the Ring Pro, Ultrahuman also introduced the Pro Charger, which offers up to 45 days of battery life to support on-the-go charging and enable faster updates and diagnostics. It also supports wireless charging via Qi, the same standard used by most modern smartphones.

A Growing User Base

Interestingly, Ultrahuman’s user base is predominantly female, accounting for about 68% of overall users. This is an increase from 65% a year earlier, reflecting the popularity of the startup’s women’s health features.

Along with its wearable devices, Ultrahuman also offers subscription-based services across its broader health platform. These include a coaching and recovery program called PowerPlugs, the Blood Vision Metabolic Panel, Ultrahuman Home, and a continuous glucose monitoring offering.

Ultrahuman’s Future

With key growth markets in the UK, Canada, Australia, and India, Ultrahuman is poised for further expansion. The company has reportedly raised approximately $55 million to date from investors including Alpha Wave Incubation, Blume Ventures, Steadview Capital, and Nexus Venture Partners. With this financial backing and its growing product line, Ultrahuman is set to continue making waves in the wearable tech industry.
