Mind Robotics Secures $500 Million in Series A Funding Round
Mind Robotics, an industrial robotics lab that originated from electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian, has successfully raised $500 million in a Series A fundraising round. The funding round was jointly led by venture capital firms Accel and Andreessen Horowitz, as reported first by the Wall Street Journal. This funding propels the startup’s valuation to approximately $2 billion. [source]
Background of Mind Robotics
Founded by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, Mind Robotics was spun off from Rivian in November 2025. The startup intends to utilize data from Rivian’s electric vehicle factory to train industrial robots, enhancing their adaptability and dexterity. This venture also offers a platform to demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of these robots in industrial settings.
Filling a Gap in Industrial Automation
According to the press release announcing the Series A round, Mind Robotics was established to bridge a structural gap in the existing industrial automation solutions. The current industrial robotics are programmed for repeatable tasks but lack the human dexterity and adaptability required for most value-added work on the factory floor. Mind Robotics is working on developing AI models, hardware, and deployment infrastructure that would help fill this gap.
Future Plans and Collaborations
Scaringe, in his conversation with the Wall Street Journal, mentioned plans of rolling out a significant number of robots by the end of the year. He also highlighted the company’s focus on traditional factory robot designs rather than high-profile humanoid robots, such as those built by Tesla. Scaringe believes that the real value in manufacturing lies beyond making wheels.
Looking forward, there are several avenues through which Rivian and Mind Robotics could collaborate. One instance is Rivian’s recent announcement about developing custom silicon to power autonomous vehicle software for its cars. Scaringe suggested the possibility of Rivian selling these chips to Mind Robotics, as they are essentially robotic processors and could be well-suited for Mind Robotics’ needs.
Rivian’s Other Ventures
Mind Robotics is not Rivian’s first spin-off. In 2025, the company also created an electric mobility company that started with a high-end modular electric bike and small electric cargo vehicles for Amazon. This startup, backed by Eclipse, has since raised an additional $200 million from Greenoaks Capital, pushing its valuation to around $1 billion.
With these ventures, Rivian is taking substantial steps towards revolutionizing not just the electric vehicle market, but also the industrial robotics domain.
