Swish, Bengaluru-Based Food Delivery Startup, Secures $38 Million Funding
Swish, an innovative food delivery startup based in Bengaluru, has successfully raised $38 million in a new round of funding, as reported by TechCrunch. This 18-month-old company continues to pique the interest of investors with its unique 10-minute fresh food delivery service.
Rapid Growth and Increased Valuation
The Series B funding round, led by Hara Global and Bain Capital Ventures, also included participation from Accel, Stride Ventures, and Alteria Capital. This round of investment has significantly increased the valuation of Swish, placing it at $139 million post-money, more than double its valuation from just a year ago. The total funding for Swish now stands at $54 million.
Swish’s Business Model Amidst Challenges in the Food Delivery Market
Despite the challenges that many food delivery platforms face in India, Swish continues to flourish. Larger platforms such as Swiggy, Zepto, and Zomato have had to scale back or cease their fast delivery experiments due to operational complexity and cost pressures. However, Swish’s comprehensive business model, which includes owning its own kitchens, supply chain, and delivery network, has led to better profitability.
Founded in 2024, Swish operates in dense, hyperlocal clusters with delivery radii of approximately 1 kilometer. This focused approach, Swish claims, lends it a competitive advantage over marketplace platforms that depend on commissions from third-party restaurants.
Increasing Order Volumes and Expanding Markets
Swish has seen a significant growth in their order volume, increasing from around 5,000 orders per day four months ago to approximately 20,000 orders daily now. The startup is currently serving 10 micro-markets in Bengaluru and has focused on automating kitchen operations to ensure faster delivery and consistency, as explained by co-founder and CEO, Aniket Shah.
“We’re very dense, very close to the customer, which allows us to act almost like a restaurant kitchen, bringing food to your table,” Shah told TechCrunch.
Swish offers an extensive range of over 200 items including meals, snacks, and drinks, with an average order value between ₹200 and ₹250 (approximately $2-3). The platform experiences high repeat usage, with top customers placing more than 10 orders a month. The key demographic for Swish is young urban consumers aged between 20 to 35 years.
Profitability and Future Expansion
Despite not disclosing order margins, Shah claimed that their previous kitchen groups have reached profitability. Looking ahead, Swish plans to expand its operations further in Bengaluru and into new regions such as Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.
However, the economic model of Swish is dependent on dense urban clusters and high order volumes. It remains to be seen if this model will continue to attract investors, especially as larger competitors have scaled back their experiments with fast delivery.
