Defense Startup Shield AI Gets $12.7 Billion Valuation, Up 140%, After Air Force Deal

Shield AI Raises $1.5 Billion in Series G Funding

Shield AI, a market leader in the production of autonomous military aircraft, recently announced a $1.5 billion influx of capital in its Series G funding round. The deal, which was led by private equity firm Advent, elevated Shield AI’s post-money valuation to a staggering $12.7 billion. Advent is renowned for its significant budget, earmarked specifically for defense technology investment. JPMorganChase, a global investment group, was also a key player in the funding round. Source

Additional Investments and Acquisitions

Shield AI’s financial strategies didn’t stop at the Series G funding. The company also sold $500 million in preferred stock to funds managed by Blackstone. Furthermore, Shield secured a $250 million loan to draw on in the future. This substantial capital boost will assist Shield AI in acquiring Aechelon Technology, a company at the forefront of flight simulation technologies used extensively for U.S. military pilot training. However, the specifics of this acquisition have not been publicly disclosed.

Past Funding and Valuation Increases

The company’s recent financial success follows a trend of significant growth. In March 2025, Shield AI raised $240 million, taking its valuation to $5.3 billion. This indicates a noteworthy 140% increase in the company’s value within a year. The value surge can be attributed to Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software being selected in February as a vendor for the U.S. Air Force’s collaborative fighter jet prototype program.

Collaboration with Anduril

In a surprising move, Shield AI’s software was chosen to collaborate with Anduril’s “Fury” autonomous fighter jet. Anduril, a direct competitor to Shield AI, uses its proprietary software, Lattice, to control the Fury plane. The strategic decision by the Air Force to avoid dependence on a single supplier for its entire fleet of next-generation combat drones has created a collaborative environment between the two competitors. However, this collaboration does not seem to have affected Anduril, which raised $2.5 billion at a $30.5 billion valuation in June and is rumored to be aiming to raise $8 billion at a $60 billion valuation.

Participation of Other Investors

Shield AI’s Series G funding round saw participation from several other investors. This includes Snowpoint Ventures, InnovationX, Riot Ventures, Disruptive, and Apandion. Each of these investors brings their unique expertise and resources to the table, further solidifying Shield AI’s position in the industry.

The impressive financial backing and strategic collaborations of Shield AI indicate a bright future for the company and its groundbreaking autonomous military technology.
