Moon Expands Compass Collection with Innovative 491 Network Player and 461 Power Amplifier
Moon’s Compass collection has been expanded with two new models: the 491 network player and the 461 power amplifier.
In this article, we delve into the technical specifications and functionalities of these cutting-edge audio devices, designed to elevate your auditory experience.
Introducing the Moon 491 Network Player
The Moon 491 is a versatile network player that serves as a “full-featured network player, preamplifier, DAC, phono stage and headphone amplifier.” This all-in-one device is engineered to be the centerpiece of a “high-performance audio system,” offering remarkable connectivity and pristine sound quality.
The 491 combines both digital and analog connections to ensure low-noise output while preserving the clarity, sophistication, and musicality synonymous with Moon’s reputation. The integration of the MiND 2 streaming platform is pivotal to its streaming capabilities, supporting Roon Ready, UPnP streaming, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth. It offers compatibility with nearly every major streaming service globally, including Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, and Spotify, accessible via the Moon MiND Controller app on both iOS and Android. Additionally, the “Connect” versions of Qobuz, Tidal, and Spotify allow for direct hi-fi system connectivity.
The phono stage is adaptable to both MM and MC cartridges, enabling precise cartridge matching for “optimized vinyl playback.” This feature underscores Moon’s commitment to superior auditory performance.
Moon 461 Power Amplifier: A Powerful Companion
Complementing the 491 network player, the Moon 461 power amplifier delivers “significant output power,” rated at 150W per channel. It boasts low distortion and stable performance across a “wide range” of speaker loads, ensuring signal integrity with “transparency, dynamic expression, and composure.”
Central to the 461’s design is Moon’s proprietary MDCA (Moon Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) architecture. Originally developed for the North Collection, this technology minimizes distortion and enhances linearity, promising “faithful reproduction and exceptional clarity and precision.”
Pricing and Availability
Both models are available in the UK starting July. The Moon 491 is priced at £5950, while the Moon 461 is available for £4550. These prices reflect the advanced technology and craftsmanship invested in creating a superior audio experience.
