Meta’s Ambitious Venture into AI-Powered Wearables: The AI Pendant
Meta is developing an AI-powered pendant that it plans to begin testing next year, according to a memo seen by The Information.
Building on Limitless: Meta’s Strategic Acquisition
This device would likely build on the work of Limitless, an AI device startup that Meta acquired in late 2025. The startup created an AI pendant that users could attach to their shirt or wear as a necklace to record their conversations. At the time, Meta said the acquisition would allow it to “accelerate our work to create AI-enabled wearable devices.”
Challenges and Opportunities in the AI Wearables Market
Previous AI wearables failed to win over consumers — perhaps because of privacy concerns and tone-deaf marketing, or maybe because they just weren’t very useful. But companies like OpenAI aren’t giving up.
Expanding Horizons: AI Glasses and Wearables for Work
The memo also reportedly indicates that the company plans to expand its line of AI glasses and launch a professional subscription called Wearables for Work. With all these devices planned, Meta apparently hopes to reverse the trend at its hardware-focused Reality Labs division, which lost $4 billion in the first quarter of this year.
TechCrunch has contacted Meta for comment.
