Barcelona’s Zazume raises €2.5 million to scale its AI-based rental management platform

Zazume: Revolutionizing the Residential Rental Landscape with a €2.5 Million Boost

In a significant move to expand its footprint in the residential rental market,
Barcelona-based PropTech startup Zazume has successfully secured
an investment round worth €2.5 million. This fresh capital injection aims to
power the company’s growth strategy primarily through acquiring residential
property management portfolios in major provincial capitals.

Strategic Investment to Propel Growth

The investment round was spearheaded by the London-based venture capital firm
Nordstar and Spanish venture capital GTV Capital, marking its first foray into
property ownership. The funding also includes the conversion of previously
provided capital by Sabadell Venture Capital and other family offices.
With this round, Zazume has raised a cumulative €7.8 million since its inception.

A Vision for Professionalizing the Sector

Jéroen Merchiers, CEO and co-founder of Zazume, expressed enthusiasm about the
potential to advance the business significantly, stating, “We have identified a
huge opportunity to rapidly advance the business and help professionalize the
sector. This capital increase allows us to position ourselves as the best
option for small real estate agencies looking to monetize their property
management portfolio or even simply exchange insurance premiums for non-payment.”

Comprehensive Digital Rental Management

Founded in 2021 by Jeroen Merchiers, formerly of Airbnb EMEA, and Guillermo
Ceballos, known for startups like GymForLess and Andjoy, Zazume offers a
robust digital platform. This platform provides end-to-end rental management
services for property owners, tenants, and real estate agents. Key services
include guaranteed rents, tenant searches, rental management software,
non-payment insurance, rent advances, and rent optimization tools.

Addressing Market Challenges

Zazume addresses a critical gap in the traditional real estate market, where
agencies typically focus on buying and selling due to higher profit margins.
This often leaves the rental market under-optimized. By integrating
AI-based technology and financial services, Zazume offers a compelling
alternative, ensuring agencies don’t miss out on rental income in the
medium and long term.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Plans

Zazume plans to secure four strategic agreements by year-end to solidify its
presence in key markets. The company initiated this strategic alliance
process by acquiring the rental portfolio of Landa Propiedades in Zaragoza.
Currently managing 3,500 properties, Zazume aims to expand its portfolio
to over 5,000 by year-end and reach 10,000 by 2027.

A Balanced and Ambitious Approach

Having achieved financial balance, Zazume is now focused on expanding its
market share without diluting existing shareholders. Ole Ruch, Managing
Partner of Nordstar, noted, “We believe Zazume is destined to become the
leader in residential rental in Southern Europe, establishing the foundations
of proprietary AI technology and having proven the optimization of residential
rental management through its quality services and added value.”

With more than 50% of the new funding directed towards acquiring property
management portfolios and the rest allocated to marketing and sales,
Zazume is poised for substantial growth. The company’s previous
investment cycle in April 2025, which raised €2.3 million, enabled
modernization of its technology and operational profitability.
