Rowan University Partners with HPE for Innovative Learning Initiative
Rowan University, located in New Jersey, has announced an exciting expansion of its partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), a global leader in enterprise technology. This collaboration is designed to enhance the university’s research capabilities and create more hands-on learning opportunities for students. The initiative, developed in cooperation with technology solutions provider SHI International, aims to improve the performance and resilience of Rowan’s technology environment, thereby supporting institutional growth.
Enhancing Research and Learning through Advanced Technology
Working closely with Rowan’s Information Resources & Technology (IRT) team, SHI International has spearheaded the development of a colocation facility featuring a new data center. This facility is designed to increase the university’s resiliency in the event of a disaster. By aligning solutions for HPE’s networking, compute, storage, data center networking, and high-performance computing (HPC) portfolios, Rowan University now benefits from two state-of-the-art data centers and a high-performance computing cluster.
These technological advancements enable educators and researchers at Rowan to work more efficiently with large data sets, advanced analytics, and complex models. The new infrastructure also provides students with invaluable hands-on experience using supercomputing systems, enterprise platforms, and AI tools that are integral to their academic work, research assistantships, teaching projects, and internships.
A Unified System for Future-Ready Education
Denise Collison, Senior Vice President of Public Sector at SHI, emphasized the increasing demands on university IT environments. She stated, “Universities are demanding more from their IT environments than ever before, from supporting supercomputing-scale research to providing hands-on experience with the same business tools they will use after graduation. We have created an environment that functions as a single system, rather than as a collection of separate upgrades. Rowan’s researchers and students now have a technology base that supports current and future needs.”
Key Components of Rowan’s HPE Solution
The implementation of HPE’s solution at Rowan includes several key components aimed at expanding capacity and improving service levels:
- HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 and HPE Zerto software, which support data availability and recovery;
- HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen11 GPU and HPE Synergy 480 Gen12, facilitating teaching, research, and shared services;
- HPE high-performance storage, which supports extensive analysis and modeling; and
- HPE Aruba Networking, enhancing campus connectivity.
This strategic partnership positions Rowan University as a leader in integrating cutting-edge technology into higher education, offering students and faculty a robust platform for current and future educational pursuits. The collaboration with HPE and SHI reflects a commitment to providing a comprehensive, future-ready educational environment.
