Fitbit Air: First Post-Launch Firmware Update Unveiled

Following recent significant updates to the Google Health app, the Fitbit Air is receiving its first post-launch firmware update. This update aims to enhance the user experience by addressing several issues identified since its initial release.

Firmware Update Details

Initially, users were prompted to install a day-one firmware update while setting up their Fitbit Air. Now, the new firmware version 20001.253.2 (previously 20001.245.19) is being rolled out, promising to refine the device’s functionality.

Platform-Specific Versioning

It’s noteworthy that Google presents the firmware version numbers slightly differently on iOS and Android platforms. On Android, the version number is prefixed with “67” but remains identical in its latter half.

  • iOS: 20001.253.2
  • Android: 67.20001.253.2

As is typical with Fitbit tracker and smartwatch updates, users will receive a notification via the Google Health app once the update is available for their device.

Update Availability and Improvements

Currently, the update is not widely available. Google has communicated that it includes essential bug fixes and general improvements. This aligns with Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience and device performance.

Addressing Exercise Tracking Issues

Last month, Google outlined a post-launch feature roadmap for the Fitbit Air, highlighting key areas of improvement. Two recent app updates in June have successfully tackled several exercise tracking issues:

  • [FIXED] Incomplete data in TCX exports for exercises tracked using Fitbit Air and connected GPS, as well as for exercises tracked with multiple devices or apps linked to Google Health.
  • [DONE, with additional future improvements] Enhancements in live tracking response during connectivity loss while using Fitbit Air for exercise.

Moreover, Google plans to further enhance the Fitbit Air’s ability to automatically detect a wider array of exercises, ensuring a more seamless user experience.
