Logitech’s ASTRO Gaming A10 Gen 2 Wired Gaming Headset Review!

Share

The Logitech’s new Astro A10 Gen 2 wired gaming headset, designed as a no-nonsense headset, is a good addition to our growing list of the best budget gaming headsets.

Logitech has updated the design of the original Astro A10, bringing forth a revised entry-level gaming headset almost five years after its release.

The Logitech G Astro A10 Gen 2 is a fantastic headset that is comfortable to wear for long periods. Its non-detachable microphone isn’t the best, and the lack of surround sound is a surprise, but it offers a lot for a low price.

Price and Availability of ASTRO A10 Gen 2

The original Astro A10 was released five years ago and has remained a reliable budget headphone option from Logitech. The Astro A10 Gen 2 is a great update, and it’s already on the market for $28.95(£29.97).

Moreover, Astro A10 Gen 2 is available in a variety of colors, including Black, White, Mint, Gray, and Lilac, just like previous Logitech headsets.

The Corsair HS50 is another alternative if you’re searching for a no-frills headset. It costs $49.99 in the United States (but £59.99 in the United Kingdom). The Astro A10 has a few flaws, one of which is the lack of 7.1 surround sound.

The Corsair Void Pro is another affordable headset with that feature, albeit you’ll have to pay a lot more for it: $99.99 (£109.99).

Audio and Microphone quality of ASTRO A10 Gen 2

The sound quality of the Astro A10 Gen 2 is excellent. Based on experience listening to music between rounds of Apex Legends, we felt it to be quite well-balanced. Its built-in microphone isn’t particularly good, but it does the job.

The Astro A10 Gen 2 outperformed the Astro A10 Gen 1 in-game, because of its directional stereo sound.

However, don’t expect this headset to support 7.1 surround sound. Instead, choose the Razer Kraken X Lite, which is significantly less expensive (do note that the 7.1 surround sound is only available on PC).

The ability to support most gaming platforms, including PC and Mac, is without a doubt the Astro A10 Gen 2’s greatest strength. It can be plugged into almost anything, from a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to a Nintendo Switch OLED, thanks to its standard 3mm audio cable. The one restriction is that if you wish to utilize the headset’s microphone and headphones on a computer, you’ll need to connect the corresponding audio splitter to your computer’s analog microphone IN and analog audio out ports (you know, the pink and green ones).

Design

The Astro A10 Gen is made of durable but light plastic and weighs only 8.4 ounces (240 grams). It also comes with a padded headband and memory foam earpads, all of which are quite comfortable and make the headset enjoyable to use for extended periods.

Moreover, the Astro A10 Gen 2 does not have a minimalist appearance with a simple matte color scheme and RGB-clad logos, it distinguishes itself from more garish and generic headsets.

The 3mm audio wire included with the device is unwoven, as you’d expect from an entry-level headset, and hence more prone to twisting and shredding. The good news is that the audio wire is detachable, so if the worst happens, you can always replace it without having to throw away the entire headset.

Should we opt it ?

You’re looking for a low-cost multiplatform device. The Astro A10 is a versatile headset because it can be used with all major consoles, as well as PC and Mac. However, you prefer a low-key appearance. While a lot of gaming gear has bright colors and lights, the Astro A10 has a far more simple, basic design.

However, 7.1 surround sound is required. This headset may fall short if you play games that require immersive sound, such as Rainbow Six Siege.

Advantage of ASTRO A10 Gen 2

  • The sound quality is excellent.
  • Affordable
  • Wearable for long periods.
  • All consoles, PCs, and Macs are supported.

Disadvantage of ASTRO A10 Gen 2

  • There is no 7.1 surround sound
  • The microphone is not removable.

Conclusion

Firstly, Astro A10 Gen 2 from Logitech is a nice update to the company’s cheap headset model. They’re easy to recommend if you require a pair of headphones that function across all of your consoles as well as your PC or Mac right out of the box.

Moreover, you’ll have to spend more money if you want truly excellent audio from your games. Getting a headset that supports 7.1 surround sound is a good start, but the Astro A10 Gen 2 delivers a surprising amount of performance for such a low price.
