Since if you take Nintendo Switch everywhere at your home and on excursions, it will become a constant companion. And if you frequently play multiplayer games with family and friends, you always bring the dock also with you so you can connect it to a TV. However, because it’s so large and pricey, you should rather use a portable third-party solution than risk destroying the official dock. The Alxum Switch Docking Station folds into a square and is quite tiny, making it even easier to travel with that without fear of it damaging in transit. It also allows you to charge my Switch while playing it on the tabletop or the TV.
This Alxum Switch Docking Station does have an MSRP of $25, although it is frequently available on Amazon for less. It’s about the size of a hand and is highly portable if I’m going on a trip. This price is justified, given that such a device charges the Switch while also allowing me to switch between tabletop and television modes.
Switch owners always have the right to be wary of third-party Switch docks, given that using an unauthorized dock well before the 5.0 upgrade a few years ago may damage your system. Both Switch V2 and Switch OLED can work with Alxum Switch Docking Station without producing any long-term issues. It’s worth noting, though, that this might alter with such a future Nintendo upgrade.
This dock can also be used to charge the Switch Lite in tabletop mode, and it will not be able to show games on TV because of the gaming system’s lack of internal hardware. Simply turn the kickstand around, put the relevant cables into the device’s back, then set my Switch just on USB-C nub.
While you are playing, the Switch charges allow you to play your favorite games for hours. The device has a button in the upper that toggles between TV and tabletop mode when pressed. The Switch screen will darken in TV mode, however, your game will show on a connected TV. Tabletop mode, on the other hand, allows the Switch to show the game and charge on the dock.
Because the Alxum is so little, it’s easy for someone like me to throw it in a backpack or slide it into my pocket while I’m taking a trip. The kickstand, which keeps the console upright while charging, pulls in to protect its USB-C connection and makes the device relatively flat. You won’t have to worry about delicate parts breaking off and in transit this way. If the front piece of plastic that protects the Switch screen while docked can easily shatter when too much pressure is applied to it, this is an excellent alternative to traveling with an official Switch dock.
However, unless you already have the adapter and HDMI connections, this docking station is not the ideal solution for replacing your official dock at home. That’s because it doesn’t come with its cables, and the instructions suggest using the Switch’s official ones.

This first point isn’t significant, but it’s worth noting. My Switch OLED dock, unlike my first Switch dock, has an Ethernet port. The Ethernet port is also missing from the Alxum Switch Docking Station. You can buy an appropriate USB to Ethernet converter and connect it to a USB 3.0 port if this is important to you.
On a related topic, be cautious when inserting & removing the Switch from the Alxum. It’s easy to wiggle the Switch from side to side when it’s in position, and the plastic kickstand feels as though it could break with a little pressure. If indeed the USB-C port broke and became caught in the Switch port, it would be a disaster.
There are a plethora of 3rd party Switch docks available to pick from. The Binbok Switch Dock is one of our favorites. It has more connectors for any attachments, is more secure in its position, and can switch from TV & to tabletop mode.
The Genki Covert Dock is a wonderful option if you wouldn’t need the tabletop mode charging and need the TV mode functionality. It comes with its charging adapter connection, is compact enough for easy travel, and lacks the Alxum’s breakable kickstand area. However, it is substantially more expensive.
The official docking station by far is the safest option, but if you prefer a portable, easy-to-use solution, the Alxum Switch Docking Station is indeed a terrific option. It can charge your Switch while you’re playing either in TV or tabletop mode, allowing you to play however you like.
It does not, however, provide its cables but instead recommends that you use the ones that came with the port, and you’ll need to have all those available. Additionally, be cautious while connecting or detaching the Switch from the USB-C port to avoid breaking the Switch’s delicate kickstand.
