Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor: Retro-Design Tire Inflator!

Share

The Amazon Basics brand of hardware has earned a reputation for providing simple, minimalist equipment at reasonable prices. One such item is the Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor. While this tire inflator may appear to be from a previous era of automobile technology, it nonetheless has a light construction one of the longer airlines available.

This Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor can quickly inflate a tire or a football, but it is fueled by a direct connection to the car’s battery connections. It’s especially unpleasant for individuals who want to avoid opening the hood.

Design and features

This Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor is built of black steel and chrome, with its set of pumping cylinders out in the open, and it looks like something out of a 1960s shop class. The Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor appears to be utterly bare when contrasted to the covered Carson or Prow inflators.

The 10.2 x 8.5 x 4.5-inch design is massive when compared to the portable Fanttik A8 Apex compressor, which is somewhat smaller than that of the Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator. It weighs about the same as the Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator, which has three motors.

Its Amazon Basics pump lacks batteries, an AC converter, and even a socket for a car’s 12-volt accessory outlet, unlike the V20 Cordless Inflator as well as other designs. It is instead powered by a set of clips that are already connected to the car’s battery connections. There’s no misunderstanding what goes where because they’re red & black with obvious polarity marks. The insulating plastic clip covers, on the other hand, are readily removed.

While the pump’s 12.7 feet of power cable and air hose should be plenty for inflating tires on vehicles and light trucks, it’s only the beginning. The Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor comes with a 16-foot coiled hose, extending its range to over 28 feet. There’s no place for coil the hoses during stowage, but unlike Craftsman V20 Cordless Inflator, although it does come with a string bag.

1.2-inch monochrome screen

The lighted 1.2-inch monochrome screen with big numbers. A three-button interface with an “S” for setting the maximum pressure and up-and-down arrows for altering the pressure setting is located below it. The display only displays pounds per square inch (PSI) & goes up to 120 PSI, which shouldn’t be an issue unless you’re a cyclist.

There are two on/off switches on the inflator: one for the pump and one for the tri-element LED light. The set includes a needle for inflating sports balls, an adapter for filling bicycle tires, and a clever 30 Amp fuse to substitute the one that came with it.

Setup

This Amazon Basics pump is large and heavy, making it difficult to transport. It has a convenient handle for carrying it around, as well as a bag for pump and supplies.

This Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor can only be powered by using the accompanying clips to connect to the car’s battery. This limits its mobility on the road, and it’s probably not the best option for a soccer tournament, although the 12-foot power cord helps.

Performance

This Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor began up immediately when you hit the power switch. The Amazon Basics pump can pump up to 15.8 gallons of air per minute. This is double the rate of the Carsun inflator, but it limits to a max pressure of 120 PSI.

Amazon has managed to create the speed demon of tire inflators. With the pump inflating the flat tire to 30 PSI for just 1 minute & 29 seconds, almost half the time of the competition. Inflating the soccer ball over 10 PSI in 4.5 seconds was equally as rapid.

The digital pressure indicator on the Portable Air Compressor was accurate and didn’t fluctuate wildly when the pump turns on. The instructions caution against using the equipment for more than 10 min at a time. Just as they do with the Carsun tire inflator. If you do ever find yourself in a scenario like this, wait 10 minutes before proceeding.

Its inflator comes with a one-year warranty, which is less than the RoofPax pump’s lifetime guarantee.

Availability and Price

This Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor costs between more costly tri-powered variants and less expensive budget inflators at $52.23. Car floor mats, roof load carriers, and cleaning supplies are also available from Amazon Basics.

Conclusion

While the Amazon Basics Portable Air Compressor‘s appearance harkens back to a simpler era of automotive gear, its quick inflation speed makes it a wonderful tool for folks who need to get back on the road quickly. It only has a maximum pressure of 120 PSI. But that should be enough for most applications, and its cable and hose combo totals 28 feet.

It inflator includes with storage bag and a useful light for working at night. The price is around $52.23. On the flip side, the Amazon Basics Portable Air compressor could only charge by connecting the pump directly to the car’s battery, making it a no-go for those who terrify by what lurks beneath the hood.
