The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU has arrived after multiple delays. However, it does so at a time when even the most basic graphics cards are excessively pricey due to an industry-wide hardware scarcity.
Gamers have expected Nvidia to respond by introducing low-cost graphics cards that more people could afford. Instead, the company released an even beefier version of the RTX 3090, which was already the most costly graphics card for mainstream users.
This is apparently a successor for the Nvidia Titan RTX. However, it retains the GeForce name. When it first came out, the RTX 3090 was likened to a Titan, but the RTX 3090 Ti stretches performance even further, and will probably be the go-to GPU for creative people that require physical force in their day-to-day work.
Of course, Nvidia wants gamers to buy this card as well. Otherwise, why would Team Green continue with the GeForce brand? – and markets the RTX 3090 Ti as yet another 8K graphics card. In most games, the RTX 3090 fell short of that mark, while the RTX 3090 Ti fared far better in our tests. You won’t be able to max out games at that ridiculous resolution, but you will be able to get a respectable 60 fps in many games on high settings.
However, although the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is already a high-priced piece of hardware, the RTX 3090 Ti is considerably more so, beginning at a whopping $1,999. Obviously, the price will rise from there as well. Whether that price is worth it is mainly dependent on your relationship with money, but for gaming, that pricing is going to be difficult to sell, especially because the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Ti are so similar in terms of gaming performance.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU will be available on March 29, 2022, with a starting price of $1,999. However, like with every previous graphics card release, the pricing is totally dependent on which edition of the graphics card you choose.
Graphics cards, such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, are often made in a variety of styles by various businesses. This will get you access to various cooler designs, more power, factory overclocks, and other benefits. The RTX 3090 Ti, in particular, will almost certainly rely more on third-party designs than current high-end Nvidia cards.
However, that pricing is still difficult to stomach, especially given that the RTX 3090 already was rather pricey at $1,499. It’s unknown how much the price will skyrocket once this card hits the market. However, given that the RTX 3090 Founders Edition now costs $2,000 on StockX, the expectation of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is to be a bit more costly on the street than Nvidia is claiming.
At first sight, the RTX 3090 Ti appears to be quite similar to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. It contains the same 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM as the previous model. However, with a slightly higher clock speed, reaching up to 1.86GHz. The key distinction is that the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti features two additional Streaming Multiprocessors, each with 128 CUDA cores, one RT core, and four Tensor Cores.
That means the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti has 10,752 CUDA cores, making it a true powerhouse of a graphics card. However, given that the RTX 3090 already has 10,496, this isn’t as significant an upgrade as it appears.
This is only a 2.5% increase in core count, which is practically nothing. Nvidia, on the other hand, has paired this seemingly small change with a significant boost in the graphics card’s power budget to 450W. With its 350W TGP, the RTX 3090 was already a power-hungry card, and Nvidia recommends an 850W power supply at the very least if you want to use it in your system.
This also implies that you’ll require extra power cords in your system. The graphics card we received has a 12pin connector, just like the Founders Editions of previous Ampere cards. However, it breaks out to three 8-pin connections, rather than the two required by the RTX 3090.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU like the rest of the RTX 3000-series GPUs, is based on the Nvidia Ampere graphics architecture. All of the technologies that make this graphics generation so successful, such as ray tracing and DLSS, are, of course, present on this graphics card.
Ray tracing is possible by these graphics cards thanks to the RT cores, which are found in each of the 84 Streaming Multiprocessors. However, it appears that they are deactivated in two of the SMs, implying that there are only 82 RT Cores. Sure, it’s the same amount as in the RTX 3090, but it still has more ray tracing technology than any other graphics card on the market right now.
DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, is also compatible on this card, though it is considerably less necessary on a card of this grade. If you’re not already aware, DLSS employs an AI algorithm to upscale PC games from a lower resolution to your native resolution. It can accomplish this without sacrificing much quality, and it’s one of the key reasons why this graphics card can truly support 8K gaming.
For want of a better phrase, the MSI Suprim X GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is massive. It has three fans, a metal shroud, and a metal backplate. It’s a large three-slot graphics card. We don’t know how much this monster weighs, but it’s substantial. Fortunately, it comes with a “graphics card stand” to keep this beast from ripping your PCIe port off your motherboard. And we strongly advise you to utilize it.
The shroud and rear plate are gunmetal grey, and it’s decked out with RGB lights from front to back. There’s a rainbow-lit MSI logo in the rear, as well as lights in between the fans on the hood. The card also has RGB lighting on the side.
This card, like the Nvidia Ampere Founders Editions, employs a 12-pin power connector and comes with a dongle for those who don’t have a 12-pin power connector directly off of their power supply – which is likely to be the majority of people.
Fortunately, there is an RGB connector right below that power port, so you may attach the RGB controller of your choosing to more easily coordinate the lighting in your system.
The backplate, on the other hand, does not cover the entire PCB. There’s a little cutout where the GPU resides, making it easy to remove the card. This is great news for those who wish to install their own cooler, but it does mean that a highly sensitive area of the card is left unprotected. Simply avoid touching that location when installing the GPU as much as possible.
However large the cooler is, it is at least functional. The MSI Suprim X GeForce RTX 3090 Ti attains a maximum temperature of 82.9C. That may appear to be a lot. However, bear in mind that it drew a maximum of 477.85W, which is a lot of power to put through a graphics card.
When it comes to ports, there are 3 DisplayPort 1.4a ports and one HDMI 2.1 port.
It should come as no surprise that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU is a fast graphics card. This GPU will effortlessly handle any task you throw at it and will be able to play any Videogame you choose for years to come.
No matter what game you play on this graphics card, it is able to run far above 60 frames per second at 4K, Also, even using Nvidia’s Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) technology to unnaturally play games in 8K, its ability to easily get up to 60 frames per second, though this requires lowering graphics settings to high or enabling DLSS.
It’s up to you if that means it’s an “8K graphics card,” but it’s difficult to believe that after spending $2,199 on a graphics card, you can’t just turn the settings up to max and forget about them at 8K. Maybe when the RTX 4090 comes, we’ll be able to max out all the settings on an 8K panel – and maybe we’ll have more than one 8K screen by then.
That sounds fantastic, but when compared to the RTX 3090, it’s not that much better, while being 33% more costly. In most workloads, the RTX 3090 Ti is just approximately 10% quicker than the RTX 3090 and is not worth the significantly higher price.
Even in Blender, where this GPU excels, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 GPU Ti is just 5% quicker than the RTX 3090. That’s still excellent considering the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT is ten times slower than the 3090 Ti. However, if you have an option between paying $1,499 for the RTX 3090 or $1,999 for the RTX 3090 Ti, pros should go with the former.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 GPU Ti is unquestionably the fastest consumer graphics card available. It is faster than any other, has more of everything, and is just larger than any other. It also has a higher starting price. By a long shot. That may not seem like much in this strange GPU era we’re living in right now.
It’s not exactly a card for gamers, but it’s also not really bringing something new to the designers. Although the faster memory and higher clock speed reduce final render times, the RTX 3090 has already altered the game with real-time interactions.
However, if you have $2,000 to invest in a GPU today, this is the one to get. Just keep in mind that this is the absolute limit of what the Ampere architecture can achieve. Lovelace and the Radeon RX 4000-series cards are on the horizon, and they have the potential to make the RTX 3090 Ti appear like a Radeon VII in no time.
