The LectroFan Micro2 is a transportable white noise machine that also functions as a little Bluetooth speaker when you’re on the go. If you have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms, it may be helpful.
LectroFan manufactures a wide range of sound machines to help you concentrate on your job or sleep at night. Most of them, as the name implies, make noise with the use of a real fan. This machine has a significant advantage over others that play recorded sound files since the noise rarely continues or repeats.
If you’d rather fall asleep to a favorite podcast or a Calm app sleep scale, the LectroFan Micro2 also functions as a transportable Bluetooth speaker – and it sounds far better than you might imagine. Sure, it won’t be able to compete with our selection of the best wireless speakers anytime soon. But it’d be hard to find a smaller one with such clarity.
The only serious concern is that, unlike some portable white noise machines, the LectroFan Micro2 has a timer that turns it off after a certain length of time to save battery life. This is something that many other white noise machines provide, therefore it’s odd that LectroFan has missed it.
A LectroFan Micro2 costs $34.95 / £34.95 / AU$69.99 and is easily available from numerous retailers in the US, UK, and Australia, including Amazon.
That’s considerably less than most full-sized white noise machines that plug into an electrical outlet, including the $49.95 / £49.95 / AU$89.95 LectroFan Classic, though if you’re on a low budget, you might prefer an under-pillow speaker such as the Roberts Radio Pillow Talk, that you can use with a free white noise app on a smartphone.
The LectroFan Micro2 is so little that it fits in the palm of my hand. It’s excellent for travel – or if you don’t want a huge gadget on your nightstand. It weighs only 6.4 ounces (180 grams) and measures 2 x 2 x 2.1 inches.
The internal battery also makes it useful if you’re on the road. Since you can use it outside and position it anywhere you want in a room without having to plug it in.
A USB-C charging connector is located on the side, along with a button that allows you to select between Bluetooth speaker mode, sleep sounds, and power off. There are additional controls for playing and pausing audio, skipping back and forth between songs, and adjusting the level.
It is also available in black, white, blue, and red, however not all merchants carry all of them.
Surprisingly, neither the instructions nor the AST website had any information on the speaker power. It’s louder than other portable devices and even some larger sound machines that are available on the market.
But, more importantly, even at the maximum level, it sounds clear. The internal noises have no disturbance at all. However, when using the Bluetooth speaker, some sounds, such as a piano, are better played at a mid-range volume.
If you simply want to listen quietly, there are slight volume increases that deliver good sound even at low settings. The speaker may be placed upwards or rotated to aim in a certain direction. This just gives a bit more flexibility to how you listen to sounds.
First and most importantly, it comes with a USB charging wire, which you may leave plugged in if you choose. However, one of the best characteristics of the LectroFan Micro2 is its remarkably long-lasting internally rechargeable lithium battery. It can last up to 40 hours with white noise and 20 hours with the Bluetooth speaker. This is amazing for a sound machine, and it has the longest battery life.
So you can take it outside or put it on a shelf or table without worrying about the location of a wall outlet or USB port in the middle of the night. It’s a convenient option when it comes to the case of portability.
You can play music from your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth devices with the flip of a switch and a simple connection
It’s fantastic to be able to listen to different peaceful music at night if you want a break from the white noise. If you wish, you may have music during the day and fan noises at night. You may also use it to answer phone calls because it has a good built-in mic.
The LectroFan Micro2 is a compact Bluetooth speaker that comes with 11 built-in noises to help you sleep better.
The LectroFan Micro2 is extremely simple to operate. Simply flip the switch to the ‘Zzz’ position for ambient noise, and it will begin playing immediately. There are 11 effects to pick from, but because this small machine lacks the mechanical fan found in full-size LectroFan machines. They are pre-recorded clips that play on a loop.
When you switch to Bluetooth mode, you may connect your phone to the LectroFan Micro2 as you would any other wireless speaker (you’ll hear an audible indication when it’s successfully attached). It’s no Sonos One, but the LectroFan Micro2 sounds significantly better than you’d think for the price and the fact that it’s mainly designed to play fan noises. Its sound lacks depth and is slightly harsh, but it’s perfect for occasional usage while traveling.
At this price, you won’t get Alexa or Google Home support, but the LectroFan Micro2 does feature a microphone included in its compact shell, allowing you to make hands-free phone calls.
There are two things that would improve the LectroFan Classic: a timer similar to the Yogasleep Travelcube to turn off the sound after a particular amount of time and preserve battery life, and a travel case used in the price. LectroFan sells a case separately, but for a small portable speaker meant to be tossed into a backpack or luggage, it would seem reasonable to provide some protection as standard.
If you have trouble falling asleep in a strange area. The LectroFan Micro2 white noise machine may be just what you need. Its 11at night, the sound of fan, wind, and rain noise variants efficiently conceal distracting noises and let you concentrate on your work or sleep at night – with no obvious repeating. It’s also a surprisingly good-sounding Bluetooth speaker. You can listen to music while traveling or fall asleep to your favorite audiobook. The lack of a timer is unfortunate, but this well-made tiny device is difficult to blame.
