Google’s Live Translate Expands to iOS and More Countries
Google, the tech giant, announced on Thursday that its AI-powered translation feature, “Live Translate” is expanding its reach. This feature is designed to provide real-time translations directly to your headphones, a technological advancement aimed to bridge communication gaps globally. With this expansion, the feature that was initially available on Android in the U.S., India, and Mexico, will now be accessible to iOS users and in additional countries such as Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the U.K., Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. The announcement brings a new age of accessibility and convenience for multilingual communication. You can read the original announcement Here.
How Does Live Translate Work?
Live Translate employs Google’s Gemini AI to provide real-time, one-way translation through your headphones. This means that any pair of headphones can be transformed into a real-time translation device. Remarkably, the feature ensures that each speaker’s tone, emphasis, and cadence are preserved during the translation, providing a more authentic and natural conversational experience. Google suggests that the feature could be used in various practical scenarios such as following a conversation with relatives who speak a different language or understanding train announcements while traveling abroad.
Accessing Live Translate
Google has made it quite easy to access this pioneering feature. All users need to do is open the Google Translate app, tap on the “Live Translate” option, and connect their headphones. This feature supports more than 70 languages, making it an incredibly versatile tool for users worldwide.
Google’s Search Live Goes Global
Alongside the expansion of Live Translate, Google also announced the global launch of its AI-powered conversational search feature, “Search Live”. This feature, which was earlier available only in the U.S. and India, will now be accessible to people in over 200 countries and territories, where AI Mode is available. Search Live, first launched in July 2025, allows users to point their phone camera at objects and get real-time assistance. This feature facilitates back-and-forth conversations utilizing the visual context from the camera feed. To use it, users simply have to open the Google app on their Android or iOS device and tap the Live icon under the Search bar.
Implications for the Future
With the expansion of Live Translate and Search Live, Google continues to push the boundaries of AI technology, making it more accessible and useful in everyday life. These advancements reflect Google’s commitment to fostering global communication and simplifying information access, thus reinforcing their position as a trusted and authoritative source in the tech industry.
