How to use the camouflage feature on your Google Pixel photos?

Share

“Camouflage” adds Magic Eraser’s ability to eliminate photobombers or objects from images using the Google Photos editor on Pixel 6 series phones. The capability was initially revealed at Google I/O 2022, and it landed somewhat abruptly as a Pixel 6a bonus.

It works by altering the hue and shade of anything distracting so that it does not interfere with the scene being shot. Google provided a quick but clear illustration of this new Pixel function – in the shot, two children are constructing a sand castle. Still, a blazing, neon green cooler draws the focus to the left until Camouflage is used to turn that eyesore into an accidental detail.

How to use Camouflage Feature In Google Pixel Photos

The first step in utilizing Camouflage is to locate it tucked away under the Google Photos editing settings.

1. Open a photo that contains a distracting hue.

2. Select Edit, then slide the bottom bar to the left and select Tools to display many sophisticated picture editing choices on your Google Pixel.

3. Select Magic Eraser from the bar above Tools. This is where Google has hidden its new Camouflage function, which is linked to Magic Eraser.

4. After selecting Magic Eraser, your Pixel will assess the photo and provide any recommendations. Because the default tool is Eraser, you must pick Camouflage to check out the new function.

5. If the overly brightly colored region is already chosen, simply click it again to utilize Camouflage. In most circumstances, the correct area must be selected. It’s helpful to squeeze with two fingers to zoom in on the distracting area. Then, outline the colors that are irritating you.

6. When you lift your finger, your Pixel phone mutes those hues, replacing a vibrant color with one that fades into the background. Camouflage can be a grey hue with a tint, or it can pick up a color from the surrounding region or backdrop.

Any missing areas can be highlighted or painted until you are pleased with the outcome. Google assists in refining the choices. Thus, a flawless drawing is not required. Simply sketch a basic outline, then refine as needed.

7. When you’re finished, choose Done > Save a copy to keep the new version alongside the original.

8. It’s simple to switch between the two to see how much of a difference a color shift can make, sometimes transforming a good shot into a terrific one.

In Which devices do Camouflage photos will work?

The Pixel 6a, Google’s newest phone, comes pre-installed with the Camouflage function. Camouflage is anticipated to arrive soon because the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro employs the same Google Tensor engine and already feature Magic Eraser.

Future Pixel devices will almost probably include the most recent features. It’s unclear whether Magic Eraser & Camouflage will be fully supported on previous Pixels and other Android phones.

Which is better, Magic Eraser Or Camouflage Tool to alter Photos.

Magic Eraser is yet another option when using the Camouflage function. While Camouflage reduces the visibility of a color, Magic Eraser aims to eliminate an undesired object or feature from an image entirely. Usually, completely removing a minor detail or person from the backdrop works quite well.

On the other hand, more important things are more difficult to recognize since Google’s AI has less background knowledge with which to fill in the blanks. That may be a good moment to think about using camouflage to hide the distraction. When eliminating a person or object isn’t the aim, but toning down an intense hue makes other picture components stand out, camouflage is a better alternative.

Google continues to add intelligence to its Pixel range, and even older devices will receive upgrades and new Pixel Drop features over the next three years. The Pixel 6 series has been updated for five years, improving the most recent Google phones.

Conclusion

With Camouflage adding a bag of tricks that already includes Magic Eraser, Real Tone, Top Shot, Night Sight,  and more, Google’s Pixel is genuinely beginning to stand out in a world where smartphone photography is rapidly being used as one of the most significant ways to communicate.

If your Pixel 6 doesn’t have the upgraded Magic Eraser with Camouflage, keep an eye out for feature upgrades. Also, updates for the Camera & Photos applications.
