Hyundai to showcase MobED at AW as robotics and AI expand in manufacturing

Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics continue to revolutionize various sectors, with manufacturing and logistics being at the forefront of this transformation. In line with this trend, the Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics Lab is set to unveil its award-winning MobED robot at the Smart Factory & Automation World (AW) 2026 in Seoul. The event, which will feature major industrial robotics suppliers, is set to be a showcase of the latest advancements in the field.

Hyundai’s MobED Robot: A Leap Forward in Robotics

First unveiled in December 2025, the MobED, or “Mobile Eccentric Droid,” is a testament to Hyundai’s innovative prowess in the robotics sphere. The robot features four independently controlled wheels and an ‘eccentric’ mechanism, enabling it to maneuver with agility and balance across diverse terrains. This makes the MobED particularly valuable in industrial and logistics environments, a utility that earned it the “Best of Innovation Award” in the robotics category at CES 2026.

The Robotics Lab, based in Seoul, is also credited with the development of wearable systems and service robots for various applications such as delivery, parking, and security inspections. Furthermore, Hyundai’s association with Boston Dynamics, the developer of humanoid robots, and its collaboration with Waymo on robotaxis reflect its commitment to pioneering advancements in robotics.

AW 2026: A Global Showcase of Industrial Robotics

Running from March 4 to 6 at Coex in Seoul, AW 2026 is more than a traditional exhibition of smart factories. It encapsulates the industry’s swift transition towards AI-native production systems, smart logistics, and next-generation robotics. Over 50 global robotics companies are expected to participate, including industry leaders like FANUC, Universal Robots, and Geekplus. Their presence underscores the increasing convergence of AI software, industrial robotics, and humanoid technologies in global manufacturing ecosystems.

Hyundai’s Robotics Lab is among the prominent Korean organizations set to exhibit their systems. Other participants include logistics provider Hyundai Glovis, mobility unit Hyundai Movex, AMR ROBOTIS, Yujin Robot, and manufacturer AMR Wonik Robotics. Collectively, they will present a comprehensive view of the technology trends shaping the future of manufacturing. The event is organized by Coex, Korea Industry Intelligentization Association, Korea Smart Manufacturing Office, Korea Machine Vision Industrial Association, Chomdan Inc., and Korea International Trade Association.

Smart Logistics Zone: A Glimpse into the Future of Logistics

The AW 2026 Smart Logistics Zone will feature not only the Hyundai’s MobED, but also other innovations in logistics. The zone will highlight technologies such as robotics, autonomous driving, and other AI-based systems, offering a glimpse into the future of logistics operations.

The exhibition will also host a series of lectures on robots. On March 4, the China Humanoid Robot Conference will be held in Korea for the first time, featuring executives from Unitree, Fourier, Leju, and Huawei. These industry leaders will discuss the latest global trends and technological advancements in the robotics industry. Furthermore, AGIBOT, Fourier, and Leju are expected to present live humanoid robot demonstrations.

“Through this exhibition, we hope visitors can see for themselves how the ‘robot wave’ currently sweeping Korea’s manufacturing industry extends beyond a technology trend to industrial and financial markets,” stated the AW 2026 Secretariat. “AW will be a turning point, evolving beyond a traditional exhibition focused on smart factories to one showcasing the humanoid industry based on AI and robotics.”

AW 2026 is currently accepting pre-registrations through its website. Pre-registered participants will receive free entry and priority access to information on global trends in the smart factory industry.

As we continue to witness the rapid advancements in robotics and AI, events like the AW 2026 serve as a testament to the potential of these technologies in transforming industries and shaping the future of manufacturing and logistics.
