Oura enters the Indian smart ring market with the Ring 4

Oura, the Finnish Smart Ring Maker, Debuts in India’s Market

Finnish smart ring manufacturer, Oura, is expanding its global footprint by launching in India. This move is destined to heat up the local competition, particularly with brands like Ultrahuman, in a market that is witnessing a growing sensitivity towards pricing due to the emergence of low-cost alternatives. Understanding the Price Points

The Oura Ring 4, a premium health device, is available at a starting price of ₹28,900 (approximately $313) and climbs up to ₹39,900 (around $432). This is coupled with a monthly subscription of ₹599 (around $6). In contrast, Ultrahuman offers its Ring Air at ₹28,499 (around $308) and the new Ring Pro is priced at ₹42,990 (approximately $465).

The State of India’s Smart Ring Market

As per IDC’s statistics, the smart ring market in India is on the smaller side with shipments in 2025 dropping 30.6% from the previous year. The average selling prices also decreased by 8.7% to hit $159.7, thanks to the penetration of less expensive brands in the country.

A Niche Segment with Limited Awareness

Senior wearables market analyst at IDC, Vikas Sharma, attributes this decline to the relatively new and niche status of smart rings in India. Despite the availability of low-cost options, the high prices of smart rings and lack of consumer awareness are significant hurdles. The initial growth spurt seen in this emerging technology trend was not sustainable and marketing efforts have been relatively quiet with vendors focusing more on larger markets.

Constraints and Competition

Sharma further points out that the lack of a broader ecosystem has limited competition and stifled the growth of the smart ring category. Ultrahuman led the Indian smart ring market in the previous year with a 30.4% share, followed by Gabit at 18.3%.

The Oura-Ultrahuman Rivalry

The competition between Oura and Ultrahuman is not limited to India alone. Oura recently sued Ultrahuman in the United States, impacting the sales of Ultrahuman’s Ring Air in the country. In response, the Bangalore-based company redesigned its new Ring Pro to bypass Oura’s patents, and sought approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection for legal import.

Insights from Oura’s Sleep Habit Report

Along with its launch, Oura released a report on the sleep habits of Indian users, based on data gathered between October 2024 and September 2025. The report revealed that users averaged around six hours and 28 minutes of sleep per night, lower than the recommended levels. They also spent less time in restorative sleep stages compared to the global average.

The Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

The findings underscore the dual challenges and opportunities in the Indian market. As awareness about health and wellness grows, the demand for premium, subscription-based devices in a cost-sensitive market like India remains uncertain.

Sharma emphasizes that the scalability of this demand will depend on more brands entering the market and diversifying pricing and positioning.
