Soundcore Motion Boom Plus brings the sound, but also the heft!

Share

Small portable Bluetooth loudspeakers may be used to offer background music, but what about actual beach parties? This is where the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus comes into play. The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is made for the outdoors, with a durable design, outstanding IP67 water and dust protection, the ability to float in water, and 80W of booming audio output.

Features at a glance:

  • 80W of sound
  •  BassUp technology intensifies a song’s low frequencies in real-time
  • 13,400mAh battery
  • IP67 Rating waterproof
  • PartyCast 2.0
  • True Wireless Stereo (TWS)
  • Bluetooth 5.3 and AUX-IN
  •  USB charge out to quickly charge your devices
  • Charge Time: ≤5.5 Hours

Design

Even a cursory glance reveals that the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is indeed an outdoor speaker. It’s a larger speaker than most options, with dimensions of 388 x 140 x 195mm. Despite being significantly smaller than its normal Motion Boom brother, it dwarfs typical Bluetooth speakers like the 73 x 184mm UE Boom 3.

Large proportions, as expected, come with bulk, as well as the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is certainly no light at 2.4kg, but the presence of a built-in handle makes it simpler to transport.

There’s also a removable strap provided, so you can sling your speaker over your shoulder & listen to music while exploring the great outdoors. These are excellent possibilities for reducing total weight, although they are not as light as really portable alternatives.

The Motion Boom Plus’ tough look isn’t the only thing that makes it suitable for outdoor usage; it’s also water and dust-resistant. The Plus variant outperforms the basic Motion Boom’s IPX7 water resistance by offering complete IP68 water & dust protection, making it suitable for usage at the beach. Indeed, the waterproofing certification indicates that it can withstand up to 30 minutes in water, and Soundcore has especially engineered the speaker to be buoyant, which means it would float if dropped in a swimming pool or the sea.

Audio: Soundcore Motion Boom Plus

If there’s one thing the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is known for, it’s its volume. Seriously. That’s not surprising given the speaker array behind the speaker’s rugged shell, which has two 30W woofers, two 10W tweeters, and two passive radiators for a total of 80W of booming sound.

It’s not quite as loud as the UE Hyperboom, however, given that it costs more than twice as much as Soundcore’s speaker, that’s good. It’s also important to note that the Motion Boom Plus sounds great even at high levels, where many rivals begin to distort. This is due to using titanium drivers, which boost treble, and Soundcore’s patented BassUp innovation, which improves bass.

With that considered, it should unsurprising that the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is a competent audio beast, with strong bass that doesn’t drown out the mids or highs, and an outstanding loudness that means it sounds just as fantastic indoors as it does outside.

The bass in Billie Eilish’s You Should See Me in a Crown is deep and strong, but it’s also bright and clear in acoustic tunes like Over the Rainbow, giving you the best of both worlds. Of course, if the tuning isn’t to your liking, you can always get one of the four customs presets on the Soundcore app, or if you’re a pro, there’s also a custom EQ to experiment with.

Battery life:

The battery is where the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus really shines, with a huge 13,400mAh battery inside – about double that of the highest capacity smartphones. As you might assume from such a large capacity, the speaker can run for roughly 20 hours before recharging, however precise runtime varies on factors such as total loudness.

Still, that’s longer than comparable speakers like the 15-hour UE Boom 3 and the 12-hour JBL Flip 6, both popular outdoor alternatives, but it falls short of the 24-hour UE Hyperboom.

In actuality, 20 hours is more than plenty for most outdoor activities, with the additional energy left over to charge devices like your smartphone through the USB-A connector or just be prepared to go the next time without needing to recharge.

Price:

The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus costs £189.99/$179.99, making it more costly than popular speakers such as the £129.99/$149.99 UE Boom 3 and £119.99/$129.95 JBL Flip 6, but far less expensive than the £449.99/$399 UE Hyperboom.

Though the competitor is more compact than the Motion Boom Plus, it also provides greater audio performance and longer battery life, so there is a trade-off. If you’re interested, you can purchase the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus directly from Soundcore, as well as via stores such as Amazon in the UK and US.

How long does it take to charge Soundcore motion boom?

The speaker features two rubber feet on the bottom. The large 10,000mAh battery charges in up to 4 hours at up to 2.1A through its USB-C connection, which accepts both single and double-ended USB-C charging cables. When charging, the power button glows a continuous red and becomes white when completely charged.

How do you charge Soundcore motion boom?

To avoid damage, use an approved USB-C cable and charger. To extend the life of the built-in battery, fully charge this speaker before the first usage. USB Device Charging Use the USB-A charging port to charge your USB gadgets.

Conclusion

The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is an excellent outdoor speaker, with tough construction that is not only weather and dust resistant but also totally buoyant, and a convenient strap that allows you to put it over your shoulder for longer outings. With a huge, sturdy frame and a weight of 2.4kg, it’s not as portable as other options, but it makes up for it in terms of music performance and battery life. It has a speaker array with a combined 80W output that sounds great even at high levels, and a 20-hour battery life guarantees it’ll keep going.
