This lack of structure has significant implications for student performance. Research has consistently shown that a structured methodology has a profound impact on students’ success. For example, a meta-analysis of 225 studies found that students in traditional lecture environments are 1.5 times more likely to fail than students in active learning environments. Similarly, Bloom’s 1984 “Two Sigma” research found that students who received mastery-oriented instruction with feedback performed two standard deviations above conventionally taught peers.
How AI Tools Can Fall Short
Many AI tools for teaching focus on content generation and treat lesson structure as an afterthought. This results in a gap between the promise of AI-powered teaching tools and their actual impact on the learning experience.
