Figma Integrates OpenAI’s Codex in a Groundbreaking Partnership
OpenAI’s AI coding tool, Codex, is set for integration into Figma, enabling users to create and refine designs within their coding frameworks. This collaboration comes hot on the heels of a similar agreement between Figma and Anthropic to incorporate Claude Code into their design platform. The source of this information can be found here.
Streamlining Design and Coding Processes
The integration of Codex into Figma will empower users to begin a design in Figma or start coding in Codex, and effortlessly transition between the two platforms using Figma’s MCP (Mobile Context Protocol) server. Prior to this, users could only import details from Figma design files, Figma Make, or FigJam into Codex for code-based implementation.
Enhanced Team Collaboration and Creativity
Loredan Crisan, Figma’s chief design officer, believes this integration will foster greater creativity and collaboration among teams. “Teams can build on their best ideas—not just their first idea—by combining the best of code with the creativity, collaboration, and craft that comes with Figma’s infinite canvas,” said Crisan.
Unleashing the Power of Codex
Alexander Embiricos, Codex’s product lead, also emphasized the integration’s benefits. “The integration makes Codex powerful for a much broader range of builders and businesses because it doesn’t assume you’re ‘a designer’ or ‘an engineer’ first. Engineers can iterate visually without leaving their flow, and designers can work closer to real implementation without becoming full-time coders,” stated Embiricos.
Codex: A Game-Changing Coding Tool
OpenAI first introduced Codex as a command-line coding assistant in 2025, positioning it as a competitor to Anthropic’s acclaimed Claude Code. Subsequently, OpenAI incorporated Codex into its ChatGPT tool and, earlier this month, released a dedicated MacOS app for Codex.
Popular Reception of Codex
The MacOS app for Codex witnessed a million downloads within the first week of its release. Shortly thereafter, the company launched two new Codex models. OpenAI reports that Codex is now being used by over a million users on a weekly basis.
Figma and OpenAI: Partners in Innovation
Figma has been a significant partner for OpenAI. In fact, it was among the first companies to introduce an app in ChatGPT, back in October 2025. This recent collaboration to integrate Codex into Figma reaffirms their commitment to fostering innovation and creativity in the fields of design and coding.
