Amazon Launches Alexa+ AI Assistant in the U.K.
Global tech giant Amazon is taking a giant leap forward in its AI technology by launching its advanced conversational assistant, Alexa+, in the United Kingdom, according to a company blog post. The U.K. is the first territory outside of North America to receive this innovative AI tool.
Early Access Program for U.K. Users
Amazon is currently offering U.K. users the chance to experience Alexa+ for free through an early access program. This program is available to customers who purchase the latest Amazon Echo device. Over the upcoming weeks, Amazon plans to roll out Alexa+ to hundreds of thousands of customers as it expands its AI footprint.

Upon the conclusion of the early access program, Amazon Prime members will continue to enjoy Alexa+ at no additional cost. Non-Prime users, however, will be charged a monthly fee of £19.99. The end date for the early access program has not yet been specified by Amazon.
Device Compatibility and Future Support
Alexa+ is designed to work seamlessly with Amazon’s new Echo devices, Fire TV, and the Alexa app. The AI assistant is capable of carrying conversational context across different devices. Future updates are expected to extend Alexa+ support to web browsers as well.
Local Customization for U.K. Users
Amazon has made special efforts to adapt Alexa+ to the specific needs of U.K. customers. These include understanding local context and common phrases. Amazon’s Tech Hub in Cambridge, U.K., has been instrumental in this process, employing a team of engineers, linguists, and speech scientists who used techniques such as reinforcement learning and regional embeddings to make Alexa+ more relatable to British customers.

In addition to the customized language features, Alexa+ can provide recommendations from popular local services including OpenTable, JustEat, and Treatwell. Users can also access news from reliable sources such as The Independent, The Guardian, Press Association, and Future Publishing.
Alexa+ Rollout Timeline
First announced in February 2025, the Alexa+ rollout has been a gradual process. By June 2025, over a million people in the U.S. had received access to the new assistant. In the following month, Alexa+ became available to all U.S. users, and early access programs were also launched in Canada and Mexico.
New Personality Options for Alexa+
Amazon continues to innovate and enhance the user experience for Alexa+. Recently, the company introduced new “personality” options that allow users to customize the tone of Alexa+’s responses. Although a “Sassy” mode has been introduced for adults, Amazon has clarified that Alexa+ will not support NSFW content.
