Meta is cutting several hundred jobs

Meta Announces Job Cuts Across Multiple Teams

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, has recently announced that it will lay off several hundred employees across various teams. The teams affected include sales, recruiting, and the Reality Labs division. These developments were reported by The Information and Bloomberg.

Impact of the Layoffs

The job cuts will not be restricted to the U.S. alone but will also impact employees in other international markets. However, it’s not all bad news for the affected employees. In some cases, the company is expected to offer alternative roles or the opportunity to relocate, thereby allowing these employees to continue their journey with Meta, according to Bloomberg.

Company’s Statement

In response to these developments, a Meta spokesperson stated via an email to TechCrunch, “Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals. Where possible, we are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted.”

Extent of the Layoffs

It is estimated that the job cuts will affect fewer than 1,000 employees. This is significant when considering Meta’s workforce of nearly 79,000 people at the end of 2025.

Investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

These layoffs come at a time when Meta is investing heavily in AI technology. The company expects to reach a record level of capital expenditures this year, with estimates between $115 billion and $135 billion.

Second Wave of Layoffs

It is worth noting that this is the second wave of layoffs at Meta in 2026. Earlier in January, Meta had laid off 10% of its staff in the Reality Labs division. As reported by The New York Times, these cuts affected approximately 1,000 employees, from a total workforce of around 15,000 in Reality Labs.
