Most portable fans are glorified toys. They look cute attached to a stroller or hanging from a cord, but the airflow barely registers against the actual heat. Aecooly calls this the AirGimbal Portable Fan (Model: PF04), and the name “AirGimbal” refers to its 220-degree single-axis tilt mechanism. The fan head spins on a POM loop joint (a durable plastic used in high-quality mechanical parts) that allows you to direct the airflow in any direction without changing how you hold it. It’s designed to work three ways: as a handheld fan, hanging from your neck via a cord, or standing on a desk. The twin-blade design pushes air at 11 meters per second, which is equivalent to the force of a strong, steady breeze.
Design and Build Quality
The first thing you notice about the AirGimbal is the weight, or rather lack thereof. At 150 grams, it is lighter than most smartphones. The body is compact enough to slip into a jacket pocket or small shoulder bag without creating a visible bulge. The cardan joint has just the right amount of resistance. It stays where you point it, but you can still easily adjust it with one hand.

The matte finish of the body resists fingerprints quite well, and the overall construction seems sturdier than most fans in this price range. Two safety devices are integrated. First, a travel lock, a small physical slider that prevents the fan from accidentally turning on while inside a bag. Slide left to lock, right to unlock. Both are the kind of details that show someone on the design team actually uses this item on a daily basis.

Performance
This is where the AirGimbal earns its place. The pressurized dual-blade design pushes air with real force. At maximum speed, the airflow hits your face with enough presence that you instinctively lean back the first time. The 11 m/s claim seems legitimate depending on usage; it’s not a gentle breeze, it’s a concentrated flow of cool air that you can actually feel from a reasonable distance.
The 220 degree tilt range is greater than expected. In handheld mode, you can tilt the fan head to blow directly upward onto your face without awkwardly bending your wrist. Switch to desk mode and the same tilt lets you direct the airflow toward your upper body rather than just blowing straight ahead at chest level. By hanging it on the quick-release cord around your neck, the gimbal allows you to direct the air exactly towards your face or towards your collar.

Battery Life
The AirGimbal has a 3,500 mAh battery and fully charges in 3 hours via USB-C. At the lowest speed, it can run for up to 15 hours, which is more than enough for a full day. There’s also a 4,500 mAh version if you need even more battery life.
Here’s how it held up in real races. At full throttle (P5), it lasted over an hour. That’s the price you pay for maximum power. In medium mode (P3) it lasted around 2 hours, which is enough for a quick outing. At level 1, just enough breeze to keep cool, it lasted over 5 hours. I also used it at home just for a light breeze, and it continued without any problems.
For most rides, the P3 is the sweet spot: powerful airflow without burning through the battery too quickly. And since it charges via USB-C, you can simply use the same cable as your phone.
The Advantage of the Gimbal
The gimbal is what sets this fan apart. Most portable fans are attached at an angle or have a base pivot that moves about 45 degrees. The AirGimbal tilts 220 degrees, so the fan adapts to where you are, not the other way around. Sitting in a cafe? Tilt it relative to the table. Walk with it in your hand? Tilt your head forward so that the air still hits your face.
The POM loop maintains its position even when the motor is running at full speed, something cheaper fans usually fail to do. There is no sag or slow drift. Where you point it, it stays.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The removable rear grille is a welcome inclusion. Most portable fans accumulate dust and lint inside the blade housing within a few weeks, and cleaning them usually involves delicate work with a cotton swab or simply living with reduced airflow.
The AirGimbal’s grille unscrews neatly, giving you direct access to the blades for quick wiping. It takes about 30 seconds and the difference in airflow after cleaning is noticeable.

If you just want a breeze to take the edge off a hot day, this fan does just that.
What Could Be Improved
The main trade-off is noise. At top speed, the 15,000 rpm motor gets noticeably noisy, so it’s not something you’d run in a quiet room or library.
There is also no oscillation mode since the gimbal only moves when you move it manually. Battery life at full power falls well below the rated maximum of 15 hours, so heavy users will want to stick to lower speeds or choose the 4,500 mAh version. The included lanyard does the job but feels basic compared to the rest of the build.
Final Thoughts
Most portable fans are basically the same: a tube with a rotating blade. The Aecooly AirGimbal is different because the gimbal solves a real problem. You stop constantly adjusting the fan to get the air where you need it.
