LLM-Generated Content Is Not Allowed Under Void Linux’s Guidelines

As reported by Phoronix, Void Linux contributor Andrea Brancaleoni submitted a package update for the Go programming language. During the review process, a user inquired about the methods used to generate the comparison between the old and new versions. Brancaleoni disclosed that GLM-5.3-Flash and OpenCode were utilized for this purpose.

Upon learning of this, another community member pointed out Void Linux’s policies regarding AI usage:

All contributions are expected to be made by humans. AI tools may be used for research and learning, but all content in contributions must originate from and be understood by the contributor. This includes code, documentation, issues, security reports, pull request descriptions, and comments in all Void Linux community spaces.

Brancaleoni acknowledged his understanding of the AI-generated output. However, he was reminded that the issue was the use of AI, not his comprehension of the material. In response, Brancaleoni used a thumbs-up emoji and proceeded to orphan all 113 of his packages, effectively leaving them without active maintenance.

Phoronix conducted further investigation and reported the list of orphaned packages, with Kubernetes being one of the most notable. These packages are at risk of becoming obsolete unless new maintainers are willing to take over. This situation further exemplifies the divide in the open-source community over the integration of AI technologies in software development.
