Roblox Unveils New Features at Annual Developer Conference
At its annual Roblox Developer Conference (RDC), the company behind the popular gaming platform announced several new features, including new game-creation tools, expanded NPC (non-player character) capabilities, and the ability to make games available across platforms, including the web. The company is also launching a dedicated Roblox Card and Roblox Wallet for creators.
Expanding Game Creation with AI and Accessibility
In a significant move to democratize game development, Roblox is rolling out its generative AI game creation feature, known as “Build.” First introduced in July, this innovative tool empowers users to create games using natural language prompts. Initially limited to New Zealand, it is now expanding to include Serbia and Singapore. The feature is also gaining desktop access, enabling big-screen creation, along with a new asset library and iterative control. Later this year, developers can expect a prompt-based scene-generation feature, extending to Roblox Studio, enhancing creative possibilities.
The gaming platform is ensuring these newly created games are accessible in more places. Roblox announced that creators will soon be able to distribute their games as standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles, all powered by Roblox’s game engine. By the end of the year, players will have the convenience of joining a game in-browser through a direct link.
Enhancing Developer Capabilities and Player Experience
Roblox is focusing on both attracting more users to its platform and expanding the reach of developers’ creations by simplifying and enhancing the building process. Among the new tools, the company is adding advanced capabilities to NPCs, with a feature allowing them to playtest games set to launch later this year. Additionally, creators can include an offline mode, enabling gameplay in areas with weak network connections.
Players will also benefit from a new Friends chat tab that follows them across games, featuring voice typing support. An improved discovery algorithm will refine game suggestions, offering shorter-format games to younger users and longer playtime experiences to older players.
Innovative Game Engine Features
Roblox’s game engine is introducing the ability to create 2D games with an orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet import for animation. Within its Moments vertical feed, players will soon have the option to tap on any avatar in a clip to purchase items, adding a layer of interactivity and commerce.

Empowering Creators with Financial Tools
Since 2013, Roblox game makers have earned over $5 billion on the platform, with $1.7 billion made in the past year alone. To further empower creators, Roblox is launching a Roblox Wallet, allowing creators to receive payments in real money daily. Users can also transfer their earnings to other bank accounts. Partnering with Airwallex, wallet services will initially be available to U.S. users aged 18 and over, with plans for global expansion.
Additionally, a Roblox Card is set to launch next year, enabling users to spend their earnings at any location that accepts the card. This initiative aims to increase engagement both on and off the platform. According to founder and CEO David Baszucki, players spent over 29 billion hours on the platform in the last quarter, spanning 180 countries.
