Apple Releases tvOS 27.2: Enhancements for Apple TV 4K Users
On Monday, Apple rolled out tvOS 27.2 for the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer models, marking the first software update since the release of tvOS 27 in September. Interestingly, Apple skipped version 27.1. While the Settings app on Apple TV does not display release notes, Apple provides detailed information through an updated support document.
The update introduces enhancements to FaceTime, screen saver customization, and Find My app integration with the Siri Remote. There are also various bug fixes and security patches included.
What’s New in tvOS 27.2?
Apple’s release notes for tvOS 27.2 highlight several new features aimed at enhancing user experience on the Apple TV 4K:
FaceTime Enhancements
FaceTime on Apple TV now supports FaceTime links, allowing users to easily join calls directly from their Apple TV. Additionally, users can integrate third-party services for sign language interpretation and captioning, broadening accessibility options for calls.
Screen Saver Personalization
Users can now personalize their screen savers by selecting specific photos from their iPhone without sharing their entire photo library with Apple TV. A shuffle option has also been introduced, enabling the device to cycle through various screen saver categories, offering a more dynamic viewing experience.
Find My Integration
The Find My app now supports locating the Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later using an iPhone. However, Precision Finding is exclusive to the Siri Remote (4th generation), providing more accurate location tracking.
While the update does not currently enable Siri AI on older Apple TV 4K models, this feature is expected to be included in future updates. Notably, the new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, set to launch on November 13, will feature Siri AI as a key selling point.
Looking Ahead: New Apple Products on the Horizon
In related news, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has leaked details about upcoming Apple products, including a new smart home hub named HomeView, a HomePod mini 2, and a new Apple TV 4K. These devices are expected to be unveiled at Apple’s “Welcome home” event in New York.
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K will feature an A19 chip, updated Siri Remote with Find My support and Precision Finding, built-in far-field microphones, and support for surround sound with multiple HomePods. The A19 chip offers up to 50% faster CPU performance compared to its predecessor.
