These are all easiest steps even a kid would do to sign-up for Facebook.

Setting Up your Privacy Settings

After you’ve done the sign-up for a Facebook account, you can perform setting Up Privacy Settings in Facebook settings to control who can see your profile and information. Follow these four simple steps to change your privacy settings.

  1. Click on the downward pointing arrow that’s located on the top right corner of any Facebook page.
  2. Click “Settings”.
  3. In the left sidebar, press “Privacy”.
  4. Set who is allowed to see your past and future posts. You can also control how people can find and contact you.

Privacy Defaults

Here, you can set up your privacy defaults. You have three main settings, plus a custom option for even more control. You can even change these on the fly when posting content. We recommend that you avoid leaving your information open to everyone. Remember, what happens on Facebook doesn’t always stay on Facebook. Here’s what they mean:

  • Public: Everyone can see your content, including those you aren’t friends with.
  • Friends: Only those who you’re connected to as friends will be able to see your posts.
  • Only Me: Like it says, this content is hidden from view, and only you can see it.

If you want more control, click More options or See more privacy settings and explore some of the custom options. As you gain friends, Facebook will automatically add new privacy groups so that posts have the option to only show to those whom you work or have worked with, schools you’ve attended, or even people who live near you. It’s pretty cool.

Who can send friend requests, Timeline and Tagging !

This page also houses options to control who can send you friend requests, as well as options for managing how others on Facebook can find you. We also recommend surfing around the Timeline and Tagging tab if you want to further tinker with who can post stuff to your timeline and whether they can tag you in posts and other content.

Making sure these privacy settings are how you want them is important. Think carefully about public photos and information, and consider what your employer or your grandmother would think of your profile.

Personalizing Your Profile

After you’ve done the sign-up for a Facebook account, you can personalize your profile too.Chances are, there’s likely somebody on Facebook who has a similar name as you. To separate yourself from these people and help your friends and family discover you on Facebook, personalize your profile by adding a profile picture, cover photo, and some personal data.

Picking a Profile Picture

  1. Go to your profile and click on your profile picture.
  2. To pick your profile picture, choose a photo that you’re already tagged in on Facebook, one that you’ve uploaded to Facebook, or a photo from your computer. You can also add a frame to your profile picture.

Choosing a cover photo

  1. Click the camera button on your cover photo, which is on your profile.
  2. To choose your cover photo, you can pick a photo from your Facebook profile, a selection of Facebook’s own cover artwork, create a collage, or upload a photo from your computer. You can also reposition or delete your current cover photo.

Updating Your Profile

  1. Click the “About” section on your profile page.
  2. In this section, you can fill in information about your work and education, the places you’ve lived, contact and basic info, family and relationships, details about you, and life events.

Update your info

After you’ve done the sign-up for a Facebook account, you can update your information. In the “About” portion of your profile, you can enter information about everything from your work history and education to your favorite quotes and where you live. This is also where you throw in basics such as your contact information, age, gender, religion, and relationship status, among other things. You can even write a brief bio about yourself if you really want to get into it, or add a line or two to the “Intro” section located directly below and a little to the left of your cover photo and profile picture.

Liking and Following Public Pages

On Facebook, you can follow and get updates from your favorite brands, celebrities, sports teams, and publications. The best way to do this is by searching for them on Facebook and liking or following their public page, which will have a blue verified check mark next to their name. After you like or follow their page, you’ll start to see their updates in your news feed.

Timeline

Your timeline is a digital log of your Facebook activity in reverse-chronological order. Your status updates, uploaded photos and videos, and the photos you’re tagged in will appear on your timeline.

Finding your friends

Facebook can be lonely without friends, so fire off those friend requests. Once you’ve collected a few friends, Facebook will start suggesting other people to be your friend based on common friends and interests. Below are two methods for finding friends.

Search: The search bar at the top of the page is the quickest and easiest way to find your friends on Facebook. Just type the name of your friends, family, and coworkers in the search bar. It’s an easy way to find just about anybody on the site.

Import: Facebook gives you the option to import contacts from another location. The site can search through contacts in Windows Live Messenger, AIM, Yahoo, Outlook, and Gmail, as well as most other email services. Go to the Find Friends page to get started.

Posting on Facebook

The main purpose of Facebook is to help friends and family connect with each other. And the best way to connect with your friends and family is by updating them about your life with status updates. To share a Facebook status, go to the text box at the top of your news feed page or on your profile page.

With status updates, you can share text with 15 different colored backgrounds, photos, videos, GIFs, stickers, and links..

You can also share other types of posts, like:

  • Feeling/Activity: share how you’re currently feeling or what you’re currently doing.
  • Check in: when you visit a city, location, or place, check in and let your friends know where you’re at.
  • Tag Friends: if you’re hanging out with your friends, tag them in your status and share what you’re doing.
  • Tag Event: if you’re at an event, you can tag it in your status and share what event you’re attending.
  • Ask for Recommendations: if you just moved somewhere or you’re about to visit a location, you can ask your Facebook friends for recommendations on where to go.
  • Poll: ask your Facebook friends what their opinion is on a certain topic.

Some more!

  • Support Nonprofit: choose a nonprofit organization of your choice and share it through your status. Your Facebook Friends can then press the donate button to support the chosen organization.
  • Answer a Question: choose a predetermined question to answer or create your own question to answer and share it with your Facebook friends.
  • Lists: choose a predetermined topic to make a list for or create your own topic and share it with your Facebook friends.
  • Facebook Stories: all the content that you can share through a status update is shareable through your Facebook story. You can also upload content to your stories by clicking the Add to Your Story button on the right sidebar. Additionally, you can watch all your friends’ Facebook Stories by clicking on their picture in the Stories section, which is also located on the right sidebar of your home page.

Sharing content

Sharing is at the heart of Facebook, so while you’re ultimately in control of what you share, make sure you’re at least making it somewhat interesting for your friends. As previously mentioned, you do have the ability to limit with whom you share every post, so not everyone has to see it if you don’t want them to. Here’s the basics of what you can currently share on the site.

Status updates

What’s on your mind? Status updates will appear as posts on your timeline and News Feed. Here, you can easily share text, photos, videos, and links with the people of your choice by inserting your content and hitting the blue Post button.

Feelings and actions

Facebook also allows you to share how you’re feeling, or what you might be doing, in your statuses. They’ll appear at the top of the status update as something to the extent of “Brie Barbee is feeling amused,” or “Brandon Widder is watching ‘The Walking Dead.’” You might already do this in the text of your update, but some prefer to share this way.

Check-ins

Want to show off that you got tickets for the big game or concert? Check-ins give you the option of choosing a specific location and time when you post. Just click on the pin icon in the share menu to find nearby locations from a drop-down list, or simply type in a specific spot.

Life events

Facebook does a great job of sharing those big, life-changing moments, such as graduating from college or having a kid. From your profile, all you have to do is click on Life Event button in the share menu and choose the type of event. Then, just enter the specifics.

Tagging

The tagging function allows you to tag your friends and share a post with a number of their timelines simultaneously. Just type the ampersand symbol (“@”) in the share box and choose which friends you want to tag from the resulting drop-down menu. You can always type in a name if the person you wish to tag doesn’t have a Facebook account.

Sharing on other timelines

Sometimes you may just want to share things with a specific someone instead of broadcasting it to everyone you know. Luckily, sharing on someone else’s timeline essentially works in the same way as using the share box on your own page. Head to their profile page and insert the content, tags, or place you want to share in the share box on their timeline. Afterward, hit the blue Post button.

Liking

When checking out what others have shared, be sure to let them know what you think of the content by clicking the Like button located below their post. You’re not limited to that type of response, either. You can also respond with a host of emojis — “Love,” “Anger,” etc. Simply hover over the Like button to bring up the options, or press and hold the Like button if using the mobile app.

Sending messages

It’s not quite as personal or fancy as your email, but Facebook is incredibly handy when it comes to privately getting in contact with people. Or maybe you just want to forego Skype or text messaging for something a bit more all-encompassing. Either way, Facebook has you covered.

Messages

There a couple ways to send private message to people on Facebook, and you don’t need to be friends with someone in order to do so. One way is to click the Messenger tab on the left-hand side of your homepage, choose the New Message option (which looks like a piece of paper and a pencil), and select a name(s) from the drop-down menu. Then, enter your message at the bottom of the screen and click Send. You don’t have to stay on this page, as new messages will appear along the bottom of the page while you’re elsewhere on Facebook.

Video Calling

Facebook makes video calling a breeze. Just click the video camera icon in any chat dialogue box to start a video call with one of your friends using your default webcam. Although you cannot chat with multiple people at once, you can continue using the Facebook chat while engaged in a video call.

Other features!

Facebook is continually rolling out new features and expanding the limitations of what a social networking site can do. From groups to games, the site is continually pushing the borders and turning out all sorts of goodies. We aren’t going to dive too in-depth into all of them, but here are some of the most popular.

Groups

These are a great way to create or join a private space for people who share common interests. Want to break a Guinness record, or join a group where members sell concert tickets for face value? There’s currently a Facebook group for both, just in case you were worried.

Pokes

Whoever you poke will receive a notification saying you poked them. We don’t fully understand the point of it, but you can do it all the same. This feature seems to also get more and more buried with each Facebook update, so who knows if the feature will be around for much longer.

Facebook Watch

uploading photos and videos on facebook

In 2017, Facebook rolled out their video streaming service, Facebook Watch. On the platform, you can watch videos from the shows you’re following and search for other shows and videos.

To access Facebook Watch, press the “Home” button. Then, on the left sidebar, you’ll see the “Watch” button right under the “Messenger” button.

Marketplace

If you’ve done the sign-up for a Facebook account, then you can also shop from now!.Not only does Facebook compete with Netflix in the streaming industry, but they also compete with eBay in the marketplace industry. With Facebook Marketplace, you can browse for all kinds of products, join groups to buy and sell products with people in your area or who share similar interests, shop for products sold from different shops, shop by category, and sell your own products.

To access Facebook Marketplace, press the “Home” button. Then on the left sidebar, you’ll see the “Marketplace: button right under the “Watch” button.

Games

Facebook Games is one of Facebook’s best features. They host a huge collection of massively popular games, and you can browse the most popular games on the platform by top charts and categories. You can even play most of the games with your friends, too.

Timeline/News Feed

Your news feed is a curated feed of posts from your friends, family, and public pages you follow that Facebook’s algorithm thinks you’ll be interested in. You’ll also see ads from brands who think you’ll enjoy consuming their content or products.

To customize your news feed, press the downward pointing arrow in the upper right corner of any Facebook page and click on “News Feed Preference”.

From there, you can prioritize whose posts you’ll see first, unfollow people and groups to hide their posts, reconnect with people and groups you unfollowed, discover public pages that match your interests, and hide apps from your news feed.

Phone and Video Calling

If you’ve done the sign-up for a Facebook account, then you must definitely use this feature. When you have Messenger open on its own page, you can search for any of your friends or groups, click on their name, and press the phone or video chat button to call them.

Conclusion

There you have it. We hope this deep dive into using Facebook will help you build a social media presence and allow you to better connect with your friends, family, and favorite brands. Hope you got it all how to Sign-up for Facebook, Setting Up Privacy Settings, personalizing profile on Facebook, uploading photos and videos on Facebook to going live on Facebook!
