Huawei is knowledgeable about audio. It also understands when to consult specialists, such as when a brand-new set of flagship true wireless in-ears needs some tuning advice. The company’s most recent collaboration with French audio experts Devialet is the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2, which promises to provide natural audiophile appeal to the lineup for the first time.

A dual-driver configuration, high-resolution audio compatibility, and adjustable EQ all appear suitable on paper. With the addition of adaptive noise suppression, dual-device connection, and a few eye-catching color variations, Huawei may have a less expensive alternative to Apple’s AirPods Pro.

Before Huawei’s launching event, they had a pair of gaming continuously, prepared to share some early views.

Overall Review

HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2
4.5

The Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 is a cost-effective device for people looking for the best noise canceling at a competitive price. The FreeBuds Pro 2 correct some of the flaws in Huawei's prior earphones by balancing more than just the performance. These earbuds could surprise you once you put them in.

The buds are more angular and have a shiny metallic hinge that gives a stylish look. With the dimensions of (1.1 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches) and a weight (of 0.2 ounces), it is excellent in fitting and won't bother your ear if you wear it for a long time.

They have three fittings available; from the 'tip fit test' app, you can choose your size according to your fittings. It had a second LED light which showed how charged they were. With ANC enabled, you should get up to four hours of playback from the earphones.

It can charge up to 50 % in 10 minutes, which is the best thing about these buds. Fortunately, the case features wireless charging, which isn't standard at this type of pricing and is available in most areas. It has a Pure voice, Dual Device Connection, and a Digital cross-over.

It allows you to adjust the noise cancellation level, apply EQ presets, customize the gesture controls, and enable the LDAC codec for high-res audio on devices that support it. It has the most fantastic Sound quality with Active Noise cancellation and other additional features you can use to fall in love with it.

Pros:
  • Rich and balanced sound
  • Lots of audio customization features
  • Comfortable to wear for long periods
  • Excellent noise-cancellation
Cons:
  • Battery life is disappointing
  • The fit could be an issue for smaller ears
  • No iOS app
  • Little bit pricey

Design that prioritizes comfort

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2

The AirPods and the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 are comparable. The buds are more angular and have a shiny metallic hinge. Three colors are offered: Ceramic White, Silver Frost, and Silver Blue. When you handle them, your fingerprints stick to them, which could be disgusting to users. Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is impressive when it comes to fitting. With the dimensions of (1.1 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches) and weight (of 0.2 ounces), it outperforms in this matter. Three tip fittings are available for you. You can refer in-app ‘tip fit test’  to find which best suits you.

The case is 1.8 ounces in weight and is 2.7 x 1.8 x 1.0 inches. The lightweight earbuds are easy to wear for extended periods. When you open the package, a second LED light shines between the earbuds to show how charged they are. If you wish to couple them, you must push the case button for a significant period. Their IP54 splash resistance rating allows them to endure light perspiration and heavy rain.

An image of a mirror-like Huawei/Devialet logo may be found on the back of the charging cover. It’s debatable whether it adds a touch of sophistication or is too bright for something that usually stays in a trouser pocket. And speaking of size, it slides well into a pair of jeans coin pockets.

Extended Battery Life

Extended Battery Life

Though not the greatest in its class, battery life is solid and consistent with Huawei’s claims. Wireless charging also increases convenience when maintaining the charge on your FreeBuds.

With ANC enabled, you should get up to four hours of playback from the earphones. The Freebuds Pro 2 charge rapidly, taking only ten minutes to get from 0% to 50% (earbuds charging in case), so at least you may resume listening immediately.

The software has several sound effects (EQ presets), and you may customize up to three more EQs. The LDAC audio codec, which works with services like Tidal for high-quality music playing, may also be enabled here to enable high-quality listening.

Fortunately, the case features wireless charging, which isn’t standard at this type of pricing and is available in most areas. If you’re in a rush, wired USB-C is also an option and is speedier (with wifi at just 2W).

Exceptional features

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2

The in-ear detection feature is practical in instantly pausing music when one bud is taken out and preventing accidental activation. It utilizes music and built-in microphones to determine whether the earbuds have a satisfactory seal in your ears.

Pure Voice

A “pure voice” is typically described as having a healthy tone and a light, smooth vibrato. HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 never allows your surroundings to interfere with your calls, music, or movies by using a bone conduction microphone, three additional microphones, and the Huawei-exclusive deep neural network (DNN) noise cancellation algorithm that has learned from over 100 million voice samples to cancel out all types of distraction.

Dual Device Connection

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 has dual device connectivity. When the charging cover is opened, your phone, tablet, or computer will immediately display a pop-up for pairing or reconnecting. With this, you can connect with two different Bluetooth speakers simultaneously and play your favorite tracks at a much higher volume.

Digital cross over

With a digital crossover, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 receiver divides the signals into two unique waveforms: high-band frequency waveforms for the tweeter and low-frequency waveforms for the woofer. The digital crossover enables the earbuds’ highly audible bass and treble driver units to function separately in complete harmony with no crosstalk.

HUAWEI AI Life app

The Huawei AI Life app, available for iOS and Android, is required to get the most out of the FreeBuds Pro 2. It allows you to adjust the noise cancellation level, apply EQ presets, customize the gesture controls, and enable the LDAC codec for high-res audio on devices that support it. The software also streamlines switching between devices. The buds allow for parallel connection to two devices and maintain a list of the past ten connections, which you may select from rather than having to fix manually.

You must download the APK from Huawei’s website, which is the primary drawback for Android users who don’t have a Huawei phone. Since the company was subject to US trade restrictions, the Google Play store version hasn’t been updated. Power users won’t worry about the extra step, but it’s still worth noticing.

Sound quality with Active Noise cancellation

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review: An ultimate listening experience!
  • Great points:
    • Active noise cancellation

Huawei estimates the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 has a high noise cancellation depth of 47dB. This is a 15% improvement over the original FreeBuds Pro. The FreeBuds Pro 2 includes three microphones calibrated to cover a frequency range of 50-3000Hz. Additionally, it claims to outperform other well-known ANC earbuds, such as the superb Sony WF-1000XM4 as Bose QCE.

Even when dealing with unexpected loud noises, such as when the train you’re on whizzes by another traveling in the other way, the low-frequency background noise of public transportation is all but gone. When you enter a quieter area, intelligent mode switching may recognize it and reduce the volume, relieving pressure on your ears. The transparency setting also performs well, allowing just enough background sound to complement your music.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 may perform on the audio front because Devialet previously worked on Huawei’s intelligent X Sound speaker.  The music produced by the twin drivers is incredibly engaging, with the powerful bass giving equal weight to the clean highs and clear voices.

Most listeners will enjoy the dynamic and thrilling nature of tuning, but these are not neutral in any sense. For the audiophiles Huawei is aiming for, there may be too much low-end wallop, but the ten-band customizable EQ allows you to remove some of that rumbling for a more balanced sound.

The soundstage is vast and has superb frequency separation that is not interfered with by faster-paced tracks. Songs sound somewhat thinner when ANC is turned off; we liked the richer sound with noise cancellation turned on.

Unbelievably High standards

Huawei Freebuds Pro 2: Specifications
  • Great points:
    • Triple Adaptable EQ
    • Dual Audio System

The Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 includes twin drivers and an in-ear design. The earphones include three microphones that can block noise by 47dB. Remember that the Hi-Res Dual Audio system can handle a wide frequency range, between 14Hz to 48kHz.

The triple adaptable equalizer inside the Huawei earbuds adjusts the audio to the user’s loudness, comfort, and sound preferences. The Freebuds Pro 2’s ANC function uses three microphones to reduce background noise by up to 47dB. Both Android and iOS smartphones can use earphones.

Active noise cancellation is a function of the earbuds that block outside sounds. Additionally, the device has a bone voice sensor, which the manufacturer claims will improve speech clarity.

Utilizing software

Utilizing software

While the Huawei AI Life app must still be downloaded via the App Gallery, you may now do it from within the default Play Store version.
Because you wind up downloading two copies on your phone, it is difficult. It wouldn’t be so problematic if connecting to the FreeBuds Pro 2 through the App Gallery was optional. Technically speaking, it is. However, without AI Life, you won’t have access to many features, including the fit test, gesture customization, detecting misplaced earbuds, different settings, and software upgrades.

The software is not too difficult to use. You’ll want it to perform tasks like changing the ANC mode with dynamic, cozy, general, and super options aside from one-time events like the fit test.

Is Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 worth it?

In particular, if you have little elf ears, yes. Simply told, the Huawei Free Buds Pro 2 is excellent. The sound quality, comfort, and noise cancellation are superb, and the pricing is reasonable.

Are Huawei Free Buds Pro water-resistant?

A wireless charging box that offers automatic and quick adjustment is included with this wireless headset. [Waterproof to IP54] It is appropriate for usage in sports and features IP54 dust and water resistance.

How should I operate my Huawei FreeBuds 2 Pro?

Open the charging box and press the function key twice to activate the headset. The headset reaches the pairing state when the white box light flashes. 2. Activate Bluetooth on your phone, look for and pair the device called “FreeBuds 2 Pro.

Conclusion

The FreeBuds Pro 2 is developing into a fantastic pair of genuine wireless in-ear headphones with superb quality and highly effective noise reduction. The battery life is roughly on par with the rest of the group.

There is a lot to enjoy about this phone, even though not everyone will love the color and the fact that many Huawei handsets now come with a few more app obstacles. Pricing is also in Huawei’s favor; they significantly undercut the AirPods Pro. Searching for someone who takes listening seriously could be helpful.
