Microsoft has gained ground in the PC hardware business. Even though it is best recognized for its efforts in the software sector thanks to the Surface line of products. It’s a footing that can be examined separately. However, considering the bigger picture – combining software and hardware – would be preferable. If you’re simply going to look at the Surface Pro 6’s hardware, it’s a strange beast to review. Although the Surface Pro 6 is a terrific way to join the family, users of the Microsoft Surface Pro laptop or Surface Pro 4 may not automatically receive an update.

Surface Pro 6 – Design

With a small modification, the Surface Pro 6 mostly follows the same recipe as its predecessors. With the kickstand extended 165 degrees, you still have the three standard modes of the tablet, laptop, and studio.
However, a matte-black finish option is now available, which is what we got for this review. This 0.33-inch-thin magnesium beauty seems even smaller thanks to the black color. The black exterior’s ability to fend off fingerprints was also commendable, and it has a somewhat rough feel that makes the shell comfortable in the hand. The Surface Pro 6’s aluminum kickstand is still simple to use. The Surface Pro 6 is extremely lightweight, weighing only 1.7 pounds when used as a tablet and 2.4 pounds with the keyboard is added. In contrast, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro weighs 2.28 pounds with its keyboard and 1.4 pounds when used as a slate.

Battery Life of Surface Pro 6

The Surface Pro 6 has a battery life of 13.5 hours, according to Microsoft. Long battery life is a natural match for this sort of laptop, allowing you to take it on the road or away from your desk for extended periods of time without fear.

Microsoft has significantly improved the Surface Pro 6’s long-term performance, particularly in terms of video playback. You should see a significant improvement in time away from the outlet between the two numbers compared to its predecessor.

The Surface Pen

The Surface Pen is an additional $99 from Microsoft, but if you’re getting the Surface Pro 6, it’s well worth it. You can utilize tilt for shading in various applications, and the pen has 4,096 levels of sensitivity and a rubber eraser on the rear. When you’re annotating in programs like the Microsoft Edge browser, creating handwritten notes in the Mail app, or penciling in adjustments in Microsoft Word, the Surface Pen comes in useful.

Features and Software of Surface Pro 6

The Surface Pro 6 isn’t as feature-rich as the Surface Laptop 2, and there aren’t as many separate pieces of software to speak of, which is a bit of a double-edged sword. The good news is that because it comes directly from Microsoft, there is no bloatware on this gadget.

Is there anything else good? Windows Hello face recognition, which employs the tablet’s infrared camera in addition to the webcam, is quick and accurate. Before we can even remove the Type Cover from the tablet, it’s already signed us into Windows 10. The negative is that there isn’t much else in the form of unique software and functionality. You can get it on any other Windows10 tablet if it’s on this one.

Price & Availability

Microsoft Surface Pro 6: The Ultimate Laptop Replacement!

Starting at £879/US$899 at launch, Microsoft’s price was mostly comparable with that of earlier versions. However, with the release of the Surface Pro 7, it has shrunk in size.

Prices for the Core i5 variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage currently start at £747/US$699 on the current market. The entry-level model does not come in black; that color is only available on models with at least 256GB of storage.

This makes it easy to explore in Tablet mode or to tap the screen carelessly while using the keyboard and touchpad. It works well with styluses as well: The Surface Pen, which costs $99 and is available separately, magnetizes to the side of the display.

Other configuration choices include a machine for $1,699 without a keyboard and pen that has a Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Additionally, a 1TB model with the same CPU and RAM is available for $2,099. Keep in mind that the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 laptop in matte black is not available with 128GB of storage, so expect to pay at least $999.

Is the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 capable of replacing a laptop?

The Surface Pro 6, on the other hand, is a full-fledged laptop replacement, complete with all of the advantages and disadvantages that come with a Windows PC. You can connect it to a docking station and use a full-sized monitor, keyboard, and mouse at the office; on the road, it’s surprisingly light.

Has the Surface Pro 6 mobile service?

Although the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 laptop may lack LTE, Microsoft’s recently unveiled Surface Pro X comes equipped with it as standard. Despite not including a keyboard cover or stylus, the Microsoft SQ1 chipset in it should provide its performance on par with the Pro 6.

What distinguishes a laptop from a Microsoft Surface Pro?

The Surface Laptop is a typical laptop with a screen glued to the bottom of the keyboard. The Surface Pro is a detachable laptop that resembles a tablet more than a traditional computer. In order for the Surface Pro to actually work as a laptop, you’ll need to purchase the Type Cover keyboard, which is available separately.

Conclusion

With the exception of an update to Intel’s 8th generation CPU, the Surface Pro 6 is a familiar refresh. The performance has increased noticeably, making the less costly models the better choice. A keyboard is actually a necessary item for almost everyone who purchases a Surface Pro, so it’s unfortunate that there are currently no package discounts for the Type Cover.

The Surface Pro 6 is still a great option if this is the kind of PC you want, even though this is just more of the same. While few competitors can match its battery life, certain 2-in-1 laptops may be able to.
