Acer Chromebook Spin 311: Flexible and fun tiny Chromebook!

Share

Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is precisely what most people anticipate from a Chromebook: compact, affordable, and competent enough to handle work and light fun daily. The Spin 311 is among the finest Chromebook for kids and top Chromebooks for academics that can also match with some of the finest low-cost laptops of similar cost. It is ideal for anybody searching for a portable device that gets the basics right.

A quick review of Acer Chromebook Spin 311

The Chromebook Spin 311’s design is pretty basic, with its matte black exterior broken up by a diamond-shaped pattern on the lid. Due to its understated appearance, it would blend in seamlessly, whether taking class notes or utilizing it in a business meeting.

Additionally, because the touchpad and keyboard are so enjoyable, it’s ideal for working on. The keyboard seems a little claustrophobic despite being the same size as previous Acer products but housed in a more diminutive form.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is a fantastic device: it is reasonably priced, pleasant to use, and adaptable, and it can perform all tasks that other, more potent Chromebooks can. This is the Chromebook for you if you like the size and want a dependable touchscreen.

Price and availability

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 went on sale in July for $259.57. However, if you opt for a variant with more storage, you can anticipate a price increase to around $279. Direct purchases can be made at Acer.com or amazon, or look for them at your preferred shop.

It’s standard for an 11.6-inch 2-in-1 Chromebook to cost around $259.57. The cost of the Lenovo C330 is the same as the Asus C204, which is somewhat more costly. The Lenovo Duet is one of the affordable 2-in-1 Chromebooks that choose a tablet form over the clamshell style of the Spin 311.

Design

The Spin 311 features thick bezels around the screen, some silver chassis, and a design that is supposed to be both robust and portable. It is the ideal of what a Chromebook should look like.

No part of the body, such as the keypad and the hinges, flexes in any way. Gorilla Glass has also been used to protect the screen so that it should be able to endure a few drops.

The quoted weight of the Spin 311 is 2.65 pounds for mobility.  Arguing semantics over the difference, the Spin 311 won’t put undue strain on your back at this size and weight.

Speaking of size, the Spin 311 has a smaller footprint than an A4 piece of paper. It has slightly more thickness than the Samsung Chromebook 4 (0.74 inches vs. 0.66 inches).

The Spin 311’s small size is both a benefit and a negative. Whatever you’re doing on the machine, it seems claustrophobic. The Spin 311’s size isn’t too problematic for taking around or simply using at home. However, for frequent users, the restricted space is inconvenient and, at worst, a deal-breaker.

That is not a complaint against the Spin 311 itself, but instead of a Chromebook of this size. Although the looks are bland, the build quality is outstanding and still seems classy and appealing.

 Ports

Despite the Spin 311’s lack of connectors, Acer made an extra effort to add a USB Type-A connection. The only USB-A port is located on the right side of the chassis next to a Kensington Secure and the volume buttons, and the only USB-C port is located on the left side of the chassis close to a headphone/microphone combination jack and the power button.

Thanks to DisplayPort over USB-C capability, you may utilize an external monitor with the USB-C connection. It also serves as a charging port.

Competing Chromebooks like Lenovo’s C330 have the same range of ports; the Spin 311’s port selection is in line at this price.

The C330, Samsung Chromebook 4, and several other rival Chromebooks from HP and Asus all have USB 3.0 (or more significant) connections. The USB-A port of the Spin 311 is only capable of USB 2.0. There is no justification for using an outdated USB standard if other devices and accessories have already caught up, even considering the price range.

Low-cost availability

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 includes a plastic body, an 11.6-inch display, an Intel Celeron CPU, and 4GB of memory. At first glance, it appears to be a typical low-cost Chromebook, one rung above an entry-level, ARM-based device.

It is an Android tablet in addition to a Chromebook, bringing a tonne of value to this $259.57 device, but it also has a touch panel and a 360-degree hinge.

The Spin 311 will fit most budgets while providing youngsters with the option to play Android games after finishing their final Zoom class and Google Classroom assignment of the day for parents searching for a reliable Chromebook for grade-school pupils.

Despite its convertible adaptability, most users would’ve been better off spending a little more money on a bigger Chromebook. The Acer is better suited for little hands and lighter jobs because it only has an 11.6-inch display.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard on the Spin 311 is, without a doubt, its best asset. Considerably impressive given how affordable the Spin 311 is, it even competed with the typing experience of my Dell XPS 15.

The fact that typing is a great experience is not a coincidence. The Spin 311’s keys have a 1.6mm travel distance, which gives each keystroke a nice amount of snap and responsiveness.

Even on the factory sticker that comes pre-applied to the Chromebook, Acer makes sure to highlight this function.

Although tiny, the touchpad is still responsive (it measures 2.4 x 4.1 inches). It’s wide yet short, so you could swipe side to side without any problems. That is not a criticism, but it should be noted nonetheless.

However, gestures can undoubtedly be criticized. Google is getting closer to capturing the experience of Windows Precision drivers, albeit not quite there yet. Three fingers open a list of your open windows while two fingers scroll. Scrolling was mainly successful, but it sometimes took many tries to bring up the overview using three fingers.

Audio

Even though they aren’t very remarkable, the Spin 311’s bottom-firing dual speakers perform pretty effectively. The sound has a solid upper-midrange tilt, and the speakers are undersized. That highlights the conversation, which is fantastic for films and television programs.

It makes specific musical instruments stand out more than others. The abrupt volume change may be startling in composition with such a complex melody.

Even high-end Windows laptops struggle to produce loud and clear sound without distortion.

Battery life

The Spin 311’s battery is big enough to last all day at work, yet it still falls short of the 15 hours claimed. The Spin 311 lasted for 11 hours and 41 minutes while browsing the web, which is respectable but still falls short of the required 15 hours.

Despite having a screen with a better resolution, the Lenovo Duet could survive an hour longer in the same. Because powering the display pixels is the most waste of battery life, laptops with tiny, low-res displays often have respectable battery life. Unfortunately, the Spin 311’s tiny 3-cell battery did not follow this reasoning.

You may anticipate a longer runtime than continuously playing a video, but it is not competitive with comparable-sized Chromebooks.

Is Acer Chromebook Spin 311 good?

The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 works okay for academic purposes. It is a lightweight, portable laptop that is small and simple. The battery life is over sixteen hours. Because it is a 2-in-1 convertible with such a 360-degree hinge, you can turn the screen around to use it as a tablet.

Does Acer Chromebook 311 have a touch screen?

Yes, the Acer Spin Chromebook has an 11.6″ HD Touch Display.

Does an Acer spin 311 have a camera?

Acer Chromebook Spin 311 has a Webcam (1280 x 720) Degree wide angle lens supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR),

Conclusion

Another silver Chromebook under $300 in a market flooded with them is the Acer Chromebook Spin 311. This makes it difficult to justify, especially compared to devices like the Lenovo Duet, which does the same functions as the Spin 311 better and for less money.

The Spin 311’s keyboard, which is fantastic, is its savior. Although it doesn’t compare to the finest laptop keyboards, an 11.6-inch Chromebook is even being discussed says a lot. Although performance isn’t excellent, it’s adequate for light daily work thanks to good battery life.
