Ebo Air is circular, with a heart-shaped light in place of an eye and an elegant plastic quiff for extra flair. It’s roughly the size of a cricket ball and weighs 330g, which is about the weight of an empty cup.
It runs almost softly on a pair of caterpillar treads, due to its brushless motor.
It has a little charging port, and one of its most amazing characteristics at first is its capacity to return and reverse perfectly back into its slot. However, after a while (spoiler alert), it began to have difficulty finding its way home.
The front of the Air contains a 1080p camera with night vision. It also has a microphone and speaker, allowing Ebo to express itself with a joyful shout of “Ebo!” and the occasional cheery yip in addition to two-way communication through Wi-Fi.
Ebo Air is ready to play when you download the free Ebo app for Apple and Android and charge it. However, it may take some time to discover just what it is capable of.
There are several things it excels at. It can travel in any direction, thus it rarely becomes stuck. It can get back up if knocked down and is pretty adept at avoiding obstacles, however, it cannot cross a thick floor.
Its camera captures great footage in both daytime and low light and stores photographs and video on an inbuilt 32GB SD card, so there’s no need for a subscription and no security concerns about storing personal photos in the cloud.
Ebo recommends using such functions in one of two ways: as a pet sitter or a home security camera.
The Ebo Air is a visually attractive camera on wheels in search of a purpose. If you’re considering getting one – and it’s strangely tempting – you should really think about what you’re going to use it for.
If you’re frequently away from home and want a fun method to check in, you might find it beneficial to have on hand. But it put your home security in its hands. You should also consider that your pet may not enjoy it.
Finally, the Ebo Air’s pricing makes it difficult to recommend, especially when combined with issues returning to its dock to recharge. It’s a cute little device. If you decide to acquire one, keep in mind that you’re paying for its personality rather than its function.
