Microsoft has more or less developed a corporate agent based on OpenClaw, the AI tool that excited early users in San Francisco in early 2026. Scout is specifically designed as an assistant for office workers that can send commands directly into Teams as if the agent were a carbon-based employee. This innovation reflects Microsoft’s commitment to revolutionizing workplace productivity with cutting-edge technology.
The Role of Scout in Transforming Workplace Productivity
Scout is part of Microsoft’s broader agent-first transformation, which automates how knowledge workers use software and brings AI assistants into everyday office interactions. “Your company is essentially hiring your assistant,” says Omar Shahine, the newly appointed corporate vice president of Microsoft Scout. “The point of a personal assistant is to work when you’re not working.” So while you’re eating some Doritos and clapping next to the office vending machine, Scout is busy setting aside calendar time for next Tuesday’s all-hands meeting and generating talking points based on breaking news.
Current Rollout and Future Prospects
Microsoft is rolling out this feature to a small group of customers in hopes of expanding access soon. In addition to the Teams integration, Microsoft is also testing a desktop app for Scout. This app launches today for subscribers who have opted in to access “Frontier” features. Currently, users are also required to have an active GitHub Copilot subscription.
Personalizing Your AI Assistant: How Scout Adapts
When users tell Scout their goals and preferences, the bot can proactively assign tasks. For example, Shahine encouraged Scout to always respect family dinner time. So if an appointment was suggested in their calendar during this period, the agent would mark it and automatically suggest rescheduling options to your colleagues.

Maximizing Efficiency With Scout
With access to your emails and messages, the AI agent can perform tasks tailored to your workload. Shahine asked Scout to go through all of his data and create a constantly updated list whenever someone makes a promise to him and whenever he makes a commitment to someone else. Scout can then send you reminders about open tickets and create follow-up plans.
Integrating AI Seamlessly: Addressing Challenges and Opportunities
Anyone experimenting with Scout should expect some rough edges as Microsoft iterates on this agent. Shahine says his scout – nicknamed Sebastian – recently sent an email. “It was just a big run-on sentence, no formatting.” It’s important to find a balance between the tasks you would like to automate and the tasks that need to be completed under your direct supervision.
Adapting to AI: A Vision for the Future
Shahine still sees Scout as a boon for all knowledge workers, especially those who are not as tech-savvy and wouldn’t feel comfortable serving an agent through the terminal. “Internally, our sales organization is probably the largest and fastest-growing group using this,” he says.
