How to rearrange your apps on iPhone and iPad- Change is a click away!

Just like you organize your messy table, even your iOS devices’ Home Screens need to be organized from time to time. The organized look will enhance productivity and you can easily find your apps in no time. Moreover, the changed look will change how you feel about your iPhone or iPad. Also, with the minimalistic Home Screen on iOS 14, you can easily find your apps. Here is how to rearrange your apps on the iPhone and iPad.

How to put your Home screen into edit mode?

You might have noticed the contextual menus available in Apple devices with 3D Touch displays. But now, they are available for everyone. Thus you will be able to create a new option for editing your apps on your Home screen. Moreover, the older method of holding down and waiting for your icons to jiggle still works.

  1. On your iPhone (6s and newer), tap and hold or press firmly on the desired app so that the contextual menu pops up.
  2. Tap Edit Home Screen.

After completing this, simply move your apps, delete them, remove them from folders, place them in folders, and anything else you want.

Rearrange your apps on iPhone and iPad

  1. In your iPad or iPhone, select any app you want and put it into edit mode.
  2. Drag the app icon to its new location and let go.
  3. To drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  4. Lastly, Tap on any space of the Home screen. You can also wait a moment and your iPhone will get itself out of edit mode.

How to move apps between Pages?

Rearrange your apps on iPhone on different Pages. The process is almost similar to the steps above. Here is how to do this:

  1. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  2. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  3. Swipe to the page you want to move your apps over to with a second finger.
  4. Moreover, you can also drag the app to the corner of your screen to move it to the left or right page.
  5. Let go of the app icon(s) to drop them into place.
  6. Tap anywhere on the screen that doesn’t have an app to get out of edit mode.

Move apps to a new Page

When you download a new app, and your Home screen is full, iOS will create a new Home Screen for you. Although you can create a new Home Screen anytime you want.

  1. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  2. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  3. Swipe to the left until you reach a blank home screen with a second finger.
  4. Let go of the app icon(s) to drop them onto your new Page.
  5. Tap anywhere on the screen to get out of edit mode.

How to delete apps from your Home screen?

You can delete any app downloaded from App Store which you no longer need from your iPhone. Here is how to do so:

  1. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  2. Tap the Delete button (looks like a “-“) at the top left of the app icon.
  3. Tap on Delete App on your iOS device.
  4. Confirm that you want to delete the app by tapping on Delete.

You can delete an app through contextual menus on iOS 13 or above. It deletes app more quickly than the previous way.

  1. Tap and hold on the app you want to delete until the contextual menu appears.
  2. Click on Remove App.
  3. Tap Delete App on your iOS device.
  4. Tap on Delete to uninstall the app.

You can redownload any app later from the App Store if you feel the need for it.

Remove apps from your Home Screen without deleting them

You can delete apps from Home Screen without deleting them from your iPhone with the new App Library feature in iOS 14. You can make your Pages more organized and get a minimalistic look with apps which are easy to find on Screen. Here is how you can rearrange your apps on iPhone and iPad by removing them from your Home Screen:

  1. On your iOS device, Tap and hold the desired app to remove from your Home screen.
  2. Tap on the Delete Button (the one that looks like a “-“).
  3. Tap on Remove From Home Screen.

After removing the app from Home Screen, you can bring it back by swiping all the way to the right, where the App Library is located. When you find the app, move it to any page you want. Moreover, you can swipe down on the screen to bring up a system-wide search.

How to hide Pages from Home Screen?

Now you don’t need to worry about deleting all the apps while hiding the full pages. This way you can keep the unnecessary apps at the side without deleting them, or use certain Pages at certain times of the day. Here is how you can do it:

  1. On your Home screen, go into edit mode.
  2. Tap on the Page Indicator (dots above the dock at the bottom of the screen).
  3. When you see all the pages, tap on the checkmark of a page to hide it.
  4. You can tap on any visible page to go back to your Home screen.
  5. Tap anywhere to get out of edit mode.

To make the page visible again you can follow the same steps again. You won’t lose the apps that were on that page, or the order they were left in.

Create a folder for apps on your Home screen

You can put your apps in a folder to rearrange your apps on iPhone and iPad. Here’s how.

  1. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  2. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  3. Drag the app icons on top of the last app icon you wish to move and hold until the folder interface appears.
  4. To exit the edit mode tap anywhere on the folder.
  5. Tap outside the folder to close it and return to the Home screen.

How to rename folders on your Home screen?

  1. Tap on the folder you want to rename to open it.
  2. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  3. Tap on the folder name to edit it, or on the clear button (looks like an X) to wipe it and start over.
  4. You can even use emoji to name the folder.
  5. Tap anywhere on the folder to get out of edit mode.

Add apps to folders on your Home screen

You can add new apps to the folders anytime you wan. You can have a folder with only games or shopping apps.

  1. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  2. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  3. Drag the app icon(s) you want to put into a folder on top of the folder you want to add it to.
  4. Let go of the app icon(s) to drop it into place.
  5. Tap somewhere to get out of edit mode.

How to remove apps from a folder on your Home screen?

If you no longer want an app in a folder, you can pull it back out. If you use an app more frequently then you can bring them back to the Home Screen anytime.

  1. Open the folder by tapping on it to remove the app. 
  2. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  3. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  4. Drag the app icon(s) out of the folder.
  5. Let go of the app icon to drop it back onto the Home screen (anywhere you like).
  6. Tap anywhere to get out of edit mode.

Delete a folder from your Home screen

You can delete a folder by removing all the apps inside it:

  1. Tap the folder you want to delete.
  2. Select your desired app and put it into edit mode.
  3. If you want to drag multiple apps, use a second finger to tap each additional icon and add it to your stack.
  4. Drag the app icons out of the folder.
  5. To drop them back let go of the app icons on any Home screen.
  6. Tap anywhere to exit edit mode.

Restore your Home screen to the default layout

If you don’t like the results after you rearrange your apps on iPhone or your iPad, you can always get back to the original layout. Here’s how to restore your Home screen to the default layout:

  1. Open the Settings app from your Home screen on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on General present above “display and brightness”.
  3. Click on Reset (all the way at the bottom).
  4. Further, Tap on Reset Home Screen Layout.
  5. Tap on Reset Home Screen to confirm.
