Motorola is betting that a massive battery and built-in magnetic charging will help its latest flagship stand out in an increasingly crowded Android market.
The Lenovo-owned company launched the Motorola Edge 70 Max in India this week, placing it atop its current Edge 70 lineup.
Starting at ₹54,999 (around $570), the Edge 70 Max is currently only available in India, and Motorola hasn’t announced plans for a North American release. However, its aggressive hardware configuration sets a whole new benchmark for what consumers can expect from high-end devices.
A Massive Battery in a Slim Profile
The Edge 70 Max’s standout feature is its 7,100 mAh ultra-dense silicon-carbon battery, according to Motorola. The company said it managed to fit the 7,100mAh battery into a chassis that measures just 8.29mm thick and weighs 221 grams.
To replenish the battery, the phone supports 90W TurboPower wired charging, which Motorola says provides “power for the day in just 6 minutes.” Even more notable is the integration of 25W Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging. The phone also includes built-in Qi2-compatible magnets, allowing MagSafe-compatible accessories to be attached without a separate case.
Android Headlines noted that Motorola is one of the first major Android manufacturers to integrate magnetic wireless charging directly into the phone rather than relying on magnetic cases.
Camera Configuration Prioritizes Value
Under the hood, the phone runs on Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, paired with 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. To keep the hardware cool, Motorola deployed its “ArcticMesh” cooling system, which uses a 5,500 square millimeter vapor chamber and liquid metal.
The display is a 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED flat panel featuring a 2K (3,168 x 1,440) resolution, a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, and a claimed peak brightness of 7,000 nits. The phone also features an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i, IP66/IP68/IP69 ratings, and MIL-STD-810H certification.
To hit its price point, Motorola opted for a dual-camera system instead of including a dedicated telephoto lens. The Edge 70 Max features a 50 MP Sony LYTIA 710 main sensor with optical image stabilization and an 8 MP ultra-wide camera that doubles as macro shooting.

Motorola’s software support commitments for Edge 70 Max vary by region. The company’s UK product page references up to three years of Android OS updates, while a footnote specifies two OS upgrades and up to three years of security updates. Motorola has not publicly clarified this discrepancy, making it difficult to determine the phone’s exact update policy.
