Samsung’s big One UI 8.5 update is now rolling out

Samsung’s One UI 8.5: A Comprehensive Update Spanning Over 40 Devices

Samsung has started rolling out One UI 8.5, and it’s a pretty substantial product.

The update is landing on more than 40 Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It brings an updated user interface and a new wave of AI features to devices, some of which are years old.

The rollout began today in Korea, with other regions expected to follow from mid-May. As is usual with Samsung updates, they don’t arrive everywhere at once. Even though the list of supported devices is already extensive, some users still have to wait.

Devices Receiving the Update

At the front of the queue are Samsung’s latest flagships, including the Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra as well as the Galaxy S25 FE and S25 Edge. But the update doesn’t stop there; Samsung is also pushing One UI 8.5 to older generations like the Galaxy S24 and S23 series. These include their Ultra and FE models.

Foldable tablets are also included, supporting the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to Flip 7. In addition, a wide range of tablets are supported, including the Galaxy Tab S9, S10 and S11 series. Mid-range and entry-level devices like the Galaxy A05 are also on the list.

Expanding Across the Ecosystem

This breadth is the main story here. Instead of limiting new software to premium devices, Samsung is once again spreading its latest One UI release across almost its entire ecosystem.

What’s New in One UI 8.5?

One UI 8.5 brings a visual refresh to parts of the interface, including updated menus and navigation elements. But the bigger focus is on AI. Samsung is expanding tools like Photo Assist, which helps refine and customize AI-generated images, while improving its Bixby assistant, which is becoming increasingly context-aware and responsive.

It’s not a radical redesign, but it continues Samsung’s steady shift toward AI-driven features both at the hardware level and on older devices.

Availability and Impact

As with most major Android updates, availability varies by region and model. It could take months for every eligible Galaxy device to receive it. Still, in a rollout that includes everything from flagship phones to budget A-series models, it’s one of Samsung’s more comprehensive software updates in recent memory. In fact, it is a free upgrade available to millions of users in the Settings menu.
