The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 elevates one of the greatest 2-in-1 laptops to new heights. A strong 12th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, a better quality camera, and a larger touchpad are among the new features. Though it lacks the battery life of its own predecessors, the 2-in-1 has the same elegant appearance and distinctive spinning soundbar that amazes us previously.

This is a robust laptop that is suitable for both work and enjoyment. It’s light enough to take with you wherever you go, and its 2-in-1 versatility allows it to act as a capable, though slightly clunky, tablet.

Price and Arrangement of Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7

The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 retails for $1,449, but it is now available for $1,229 on Lenovo’s website. This model has a 14-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display, an Intel Core i7 12th Gen CPU, an Intel Iris Xe GPU, 512GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, and Windows 11 Home. The laptop also involves 3 months of Xbox Game Pass for free.

The configuration of our evaluation device includes a Core i7-1260p CPU, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and Windows 11 Pro. It also had a Lenovo 14-inch sleeve as well as the Lenovo E-Color pen. This setup costs $1,929.

Design

Design of Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7

The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 features a slim aluminum unibody design that dimensions 12.52 x 9.06 x 0.6 inches & weighs 3.09 pounds. The lid is lit up with subtle Yoga and Lenovo logos that integrate well with the overall design. The ports are on each side of the device, while the heat vents are on the bottom.

The interior of the laptop is just as stylish as the appearance. Large palm rests are located directly below the large backlit keyboard. Thin bezels border the left and right sides of the screen, but the broader top bezel contains the laptop’s camera. The rotating soundbar is built on the hinge beneath the screen.

The simple clamshell shape isn’t eye-catching, yet it is attractive. The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 fits in with practically any setting, whether it’s a living room or your business workstation. The 2-in-1 also looks beautiful in tent mode. Which is likely to be used for viewing videos or movies.

Display

In either laptop or tent form, the 14-inch screen OLED display is ideal for watching films. You’ll have more vertical room while browsing across online sites or reading documents owing to the 16:10 aspect ratio.

Because of the OLED screen, content like a Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer looks really good. The contrast between light and dark aspects. Such as the bright orange alien sunlight and the deep shadows it cast, which can greatly amaze anyone. The somber Moon Knight looks wonderful as well.

Lenovo claims that the 2-in-1 can attain 400 nits of high brightness. The average brightness was 351 nits. Though this falls short of the claim, it outperforms its predecessor’s 334 nits and outperforms its rival Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360’s 264 nits. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio, on the other hand, outshines them all with an average brightness of 487 nits.

According to the colorimeter results, the Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 covered 197.9 percent of the sRGB color spectrum. This not only outperforms last year’s model (107.3 percent), but it also outperforms the Galaxy Book Pro 360 (120.2 percent) and Surface Laptop Studio (120.2 percent) (105.6 percent).

4K screens are all the rage right now, and I’m sure some will be unhappy that the Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 does not support them. Full HD panels, on the other hand, are absolutely enough for 14-inch laptops in my opinion. Furthermore, the stunning OLED display compensates for the usual HD pixel count.

Audio

Audio of Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7

Laptop audio isn’t usually the best, but the Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7’s Bowers and Wilkins speaker system generates high-quality music with two speakers built into the display hinges and two subwoofers on the sides. The Dolby Atmos software contributes to the whole experience. The rotating speaker architecture of the 2-in-1 offers excellent sound whether in laptop or tent mode.

You couldn’t stop bopping your head to Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” while viewing the previous Thor teaser. During the hard-rocking sections, the music was powerful, while the pre-verse portion was mild. The sound quality of music on this laptop will not disappoint you.

Because laptop speakers are so bad. They usually advise readers to use headphones when using them. We recommend everyone avoid wearing headphones when using the Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7. The outstanding speaker features make all media sound fantastic, whether it’s the newest Hollywood blockbuster or one’s favorite performer.

Ports

Ports of Lenovo Yoga 9i

When it comes to ports, the Lenovo Yoga 9i keeps things simple. On the right side of the device, you’ll discover a power button, a USB-C connector, and a headphone/mic combination jack. On the left are 2 Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports and a USB-A port.

Ports are set just on sides as far back as practicable. As a result, you didn’t have to worry over cords standing in the way of your business. You may argue that this laptop lacks sufficient ports, but given that you can attach extra devices such as keyboards and mice through Bluetooth, I don’t believe this is an issue.

Software

Software

The Lenovo Vantage app comes on the new Yoga 9i Gen 7 as it did on the previous generation. This is where you can access information on the laptop as well as the most recent BIOS and driver upgrades. You can adjust and personalize the accompanying pen with the Active Pen app.

Windows 11 is also pre-installed, as is the case with the majority of laptops sold this year. Your evaluation machine runs Windows 11 Pro. Which has greater security protections than Windows 11 Home.

Keyboard and touchpad of Yoga 9i Gen 7

Keyboard and touchpad of Yoga 9i Gen 7

I’m not a huge fan of laptop keyboards and touchpads because they’re generally inferior to special mice and mechanical keyboards. But you’ll be glad to report that the Yoga 9i’s keyboard & trackpad are an exception since they’re both excellent.

The large palm rests made it simple to type for long periods of time. When pushed, the keys provide a satisfactory degree of resistance.

The trackpad on this year’s Yoga 9i is bigger than on the previous year’s model. The touchpad, like the keyboard, provides me with ample space. you will also find it to be quite sensitive and precise. The pointer always fell precisely where you wanted it to.

Webcam

Webcam

The Yoga 9i works seamlessly with a 1080p Full HD Camera with a privacy shutter. These capabilities are an improvement over last year’s model, which had a dismal 720p resolution and no IR capability. We exist in a universe where video chat has become a fundamental necessity for most people. So it’s encouraging to see Lenovo provide such a camera that’s more fit to how we operate now.

Under optimal lighting circumstances, the camera produces crisp photos and video. The colors are rather realistic, as well as the overall image is sharp and clear. When operating the camera in a low-light environment, there is perceptible grain, but might not be an issue. This is a reliable built-in camera that’s ideal for online conferencing or checking up with family and friends.

Conclusion

In many aspects, the Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 is an upgrade over last year’s model. That’s saying a lot given how much we like the original 2-in-1 laptop, but this refresh is simply that amazing. The powerful 12th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU and enough RAM provide flawless multitasking, while the large keyboard allows you to work peacefully for hours.

Highlights include a better webcam and booming speakers. While our configuration’s battery life is less than in the earlier models, users must be able to go through the majority of an average workday.

The only big issue you will have about this laptop would be that it makes an uncomfortable tablet. Yes, the touch interface is responsive and simple to just use, but the laptop’s size prevents you from using it in one hand as comfortably as smaller tablets. Despite its small size, it’s feasible that some people may regard the Yoga 9i to be a perfectly adequate Windows tablet.
