Apple’s Upcoming iOS 27 Features: What’s Still in the Works?
Apple recently concluded its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, where they unveiled a range of new software features focusing primarily on Siri AI enhancements and improved system stability. Despite these announcements, there are still a few anticipated features that didn’t make it to the keynote. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, these features are expected to be revealed by September.
Simplified Modular Ultra Face for Apple Watch
One of the anticipated features is a simplified version of the Modular Ultra watch face, which is currently exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra. This new version will retain the large clock design but eliminate the second row of complications. Although it wasn’t showcased at WWDC, it is expected to be introduced alongside new Apple Watch models in September.
As a former Apple Watch Ultra user, I found myself missing this watch face after switching to the Series 10. The availability of a simplified version would be a welcome addition for many users.
Enhancements to Siri: Additional Extensions
Another significant rumor surrounding iOS 27 involves Siri supporting additional chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. Currently, Apple maintains support for ChatGPT due to its initial partnership with OpenAI in 2024. However, Apple is aiming for a more integrated solution with the upcoming feature set.
In iOS 27, Apple plans to allow apps to integrate with Siri directly through an Extensions API. This would eliminate the need for individual agreements with each company, although it may not offer the same privacy guarantees as the original ChatGPT partnership.

Although nothing has been finalized, it is expected that this feature will eventually be implemented.
Potential Delays and Considerations
According to Gurman, there are four key reasons for the delay in implementing these extensions:
- Compatibility issues with Apple’s campaign against the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Union.
- Integrating better models initially could overshadow Siri AI’s enhancements.
- Apple might want to avoid potential litigation with OpenAI, which has been threatened previously.
- Additional third-party integration alongside the Gemini partnership could lead to unnecessary confusion.
As September approaches, more details about how these extensions will function are likely to be revealed. In theory, any renowned AI company could implement this, allowing users to utilize their features via Siri.
Customizable Camera App
Lastly, iOS 27 is expected to introduce a fully customizable camera app, enabling users to position controls as per their preference. While this wasn’t included in the initial developer beta, other features such as Siri integration within the Camera app were present.
This feature is anticipated to debut in September along with the iPhone 18 Pro, adding excitement to the release cycle.
